Firewall settings help please

Hi all,

Can anyone help in regards to Windows 10 firewall settings for NextPVR please? Yesterday evening I'd been trying to sort out an unrelated program and its firewall settings and ended up restoring all firewall settings to default.

NextPVR server is working fine, however one of the clients or the Kodi NextPVR Addon on another computer is reporting the following when trying to connect:

NextPVR Addon
Addon couldn't be loaded
An unknown error occured

Which is no doubt something I've done when I reset the firewall settings on the main/server computer as it's been working without a hiccup for the last year. So thought it best to check as to which exact firewall rules need adding again. (Is it just port 8866 needs adding as an incoming rule?)

If you rerun the installer you won't lose your NextPVR settings but the firewall rules will be reset.

Hi Martin,

Thank you for your message.

I've just tried a quick rerun of the installer as you mentioned above, but unfortunately the NextPVR addon is still unable to access the NextPVR server. (I had a quick look afterwards in the firewall settings but couldn't see any new rules regarding NextPVR which might have been added during the install.)

Also just to double check I disconnected my router from the internet, disabled all firewalls on the NextPVR Server and the NextPVR addon client side was working fine again. So it's definitely to do with the firewall settings unfortunately and something I've done yesterday.

Not sure what firewall your are using, the incoming Windows Defender Firewall rule set by NextPVR would be any protocol all ports for NextPVRServer.exe.

Kodi will try and connect on TCP to your configured IP and port which defaults to 8866. Kodi also uses an incoming discovery port UPD 16891 but only on startup and it is not mandatory.

Hi Martin,

It's only the Windows 10 built in firewall, I tried another rerun of the installer again but upon checking the firewall I couldn't see any info relating to NextPVR still. I'm unsure as to why Windows 10 isn't adding the firewall info from the installs, as I only did default firewall settings yesterday and touched nothing else.

However I have managed add the firewall info you kindly provided me with manually and it is all working again and so thank you for your help, really appreciate it.
