Your last point is where I think the diffculty lies. I dont see these anywhere, nor have been prompted. Also, I cannot see my external USB as an option when selecting a recording directory.

It is not a standard mac dialog. Find the .. in the list of options. It means go up one level. Repeat until you are at the root directory. select "volumes" there and you will find your external drive.

Permission requests , sorry. I do not recall asking for permissions nor is there any “pending” requests?? Thank you for your help thus far.

 Found “volumes”. Should the buffer directory be same location or does it matter?

Update....reinstalled and allowed permission. I noticed this in the lines in terminal when starting up:
[12] PowerManagement CancelRecordingWakeupRequests (needs implementation)

tried again, starts recording then crashes....

Don't worry about PowerManagement logs it is only enabled on Windows.

I think when I installed NextPVR for the first time on macOS, the recording folder were created for me, I don't remember them being in the download folder. Maybe you didn't install following sub's instructions.

I guess I give up. Just cant seem to get it to stop crashing once recording starts.

Maybe try one list clean install

- remove .NPVR-data from your home folder.
- you should have the binaries installed so

cd ~
cd NPVR
dotnet ./NextPVRServer.dll

This shouldn't use the download folder and you should be able to recording after setup.
