If that was what you were trying to do, then you can probably set <VideoDefaultAspectRatioSDi>16x9</VideoDefaultAspectRatioSDi> in your config.xml <HDPVR> section.

Sub,  that is very interesting.

Was that a Windows install of Kodi?

Perhaps Martin has a valid point re: Particular client being used.

With my android clients like Shield and Fire TV Cube,  I don't get correct aspect until I select 16x9.

That is so weird. I will try Windows anyway just for a comparison.

It is not super dire, as of course the same channels are broadcast in 1080 of Freeview DVB-T, but it is an oddity I have always experienced.

I have been fighting weird micro-stuttering, but seem to be making progress on it.
I discovered re-muxing to mp4 seems to help a hell of a lot, but brings in other challenges, as scripting for post processing is not my strong point.

But today,  I was trying to figure out why the Shield can play recording that micro-stutter, and my Fire TV Cube cannot
.
Apart from the obvious thing that Kodi on Shield is 64 bit,  I discovered that on shield, there is an advancedsettings.xml file that increases the buffer memory size, as the NVidia Shield is considered to to support high memory profile.

I copied the same advanced settings file over to my fire cube, rebooted,  and to my surprise discovered that the 1080i recordings I have that micro-stutter, now play back fine.
In case it was just co-incidental, I recorded the same content again, as they repeat shows etc on Sky.   Once again, no observable stutter.   Had an odd frame drop, but think it might be weather related, but the bits that would consistently stutter are now seemingly fine.

So, Martin was dead on the money, as he did actually mention buffers in one of his comments, but I thought at the time he was meaning the buffer settings inside the nextpvr addon, as opposed to memory allocations on the device itself.

Yes, I was aware of the config setting for aspect in HDPVR section,  but the MySkyHDi STB has always displayed the aspect correct for the Plus1 channels,  it's just the DVB-T ones that are whacked.
So, it will be intriguing to see if they work right on Windows Kodi.

Sub,   I just followed your example and did clean install of Kodi Windows version.

All of those Plus1 channels display perfectly.
It would appear the aspect issue I encounter with those channels is affecting Android clients.

How interesting.

Honestly, I'm not that surprised. The differences between platforms are in the lower level stuff, like video playback, which often involves hardware decoders or deinterlacers, so could easily be different on Windows vs Android

It isn't just platforms, the h/w layer and codec support on Android varies significantly. Each iteration of Amazon is quite different but really Kodi support for Android is in need of developers but you really should deal with Kodi forums if uidroid works

If you place a 50MB sample sample somewhere and link it I can check a few of my Android devices

Yes, I can make up a sample for you.

As mentioned, the so called Plus1 DVB-T channels here are channels delayed by 1 hour,  for people who don't have a cool PVR like NextPVR can view something they missed.
The proper channels are 1080, but the Plus1 versions of them are 576.

Martin, also just wanted to say thanks for all your input regarding the micro-stuttering I have been trying to work out over various threads.
Tried a mess of stuff from different versions of Windows, messing up my network, postprocessing scripts, running on bare metal, virtual, you name it.

As mentioned further up this thread, I took your suggestion regarding buffers, and it seems to have had quite a profound effect on playing back my recordings from STB in Kodi.

I had misinterpreted your suggestion, and didn't think you might be talking about Kodi buffer settings, as I was thinking of the nextpvr addon buffer settings for timeshifting.

Anyway, don't seem to be seeing micro-stutter in the STB recordings now, after duplicating the advancedsettings.xml from my Shield to the Fire Cube, which contained buffer settings and buffer read facter settings.
It definitely made a difference, as is a lot better than trying to setup postprocessing script to remux recordings to mp4.

So cheers for that!.
