So I have been giving this some thought on how to do this on Kodi and I think I have the solution.
Kodi Has a "pictures" menu item and my plan is to use that.
If some one would point me to where the file where the guide data is stored after an update I would be grateful.
Since I only have experience with Batch files and Vb6 its what I will be limited to.

Plan:
After an update I plan to parse the guide data file and pick out the first airing of a show/movie title and run it through imdb or similar site to get the photo and then rewrite the picture file name with the shows first day and time in the guide data entry (ex. 02-05-2024-14:30)
Then place that in a folder that can be pointed to in Kodi.
This would be close enough to mimic the feature in Tablo and point you to when to set the recording.


I know it sounds easier said than done but hey gotta start somewhere....LOL

Any ideas, concerns assistance or any big road blocks I could run into?

The problem with providing this type of page in NextPVR is that it really needs artwork for every show. This isn't really practical, particularly so for non-Schedules Direct users, where it needs to go through a relatively slow process of searching internet artwork archives for show names that match etc. Honestly those services would probably block us if NextPVR user's were trying to hit them for 10's of thousands of shows. I'm pretty sure Schedules Direct wouldn't like it either.

Instead NextPVR uses a model where it only retrieves artwork when it needs it, and it's typically one show at a time - like when you click on it in the TV Guide, or schedule a recording.

Fair enough, makes sense.

How about just parsing the guide data file to get show/movie names and times?
I could then break it down to just that, programmatically change the extension to .jpg so it would be recognized by Kodi "pictures".
Then it could potentially just show up as a list accomplishing the same purpose, just not as fancy ..

I really can't see why you'd want that. If you made a picture of the show names, you can't interact with it in any useful way.

Not from there, you are correct.
But if you would know it exists you could then search it through the guide side cause it would also be there.

Going through the feature on my tablo just today I found a couple of shows that I was able to set up to record on Kodi.
Thats what brought me back to the topic and questioning how could I make it work......with out all the extra work of going to Tablo then back to Kodi.

You can also use TitanTV and filter by Movies or New. There is integration with NextPVR for recording.
