Saw that while browsing the PR page. It may not be possible to fix the issue with channels deleted at the PVR still appearing in custom Kodi groups, because what's to say that a channel in question doesn't belong to a PVR that is currently offline, or may appear again at some later point. And if the URL or PIN for a PVR changes, we certainly want the Kodi channels and groups databases to remain intact while the front end is updated. Which is currently the case.

I wouldn't worry about about the, the channel oid, is tied to the Kodi instance which is tied to the IP settings and the PIN.  If you do change the IP or PORT which effecttively could be another instance of NextPVR then you would need to use the Kodi PVR Setting to nuke the PVR database and rebuild.

The IP was changed just last night switching from wireless to ethernet on the PVR back end machine, as the experimentation stage wraps up and the system is ready to be put into actual use. The host name didn't change, but the numerical IP did in the NextPVR front end configuration settings. Now, I did enter the host name into the settings, but at least on the Android boxes, it's showing the IP address.

Thankfully, the Kodi database was intact. This is good because the entire home network and media setup is designed to be modular, and in the event of stormy weather, most everything aside from the router, one TV (a cheap one at that), its even cheaper Android box, and the mobile devices are unplugged from the wall and isolated. Being able to transparently switch back and forth between wireless and hard-wired is therefore a desirable feature.

That's because it's the Pluto TV API itself that's limiting the number of items per category. It's certainly their right. We should be thankful that we have access to as many as that.

It looks like a lot of movies appear in more than one category, therefore to find a particular title, the API (or retrieved JSON files) could be searched, and a sufficiently small category chosen in which to find it.

The question then becomes, in order to add another category by enabling it in the respective lst file, is it enough to run "pluto.py vod" afterward, or does the cache need to be cleared first with "pluto.py vod-reset"?

It is assumed that changes to data in the API itself, including new categories, would not appear in the JSON and lst files until a "vod-reset" is performed. This, in turn, appears to wipe any existing settings in the current lst files as well. Is that correct?

My intention is not use the NextPVR's VOD capability as a downloader. If I wanted to do that, there are lots of other ways to skin that cat. It stands to reason that some people may see it differently and would hoe that row without hesitation. The ability to stream a movie or episode to Kodi without saving more than is needed for the configured time shifting interval would suit me just fine. If there are considerations to bring such a feature to fruition, it would be most welcome.

Any questions about the abandoned pluto extra will be ignored and I'm sorry another user caused this necessary action. The extra might come back as VOD only one day, I can't have users posting the XMLTV file.
