Have problems connecting to my TV set-top?

I installed NextPVR on my computer but have problems connecting to my TV set-top box. When I try to search for channels, NextPVR doesn't find any. I have checked the connection and set it up correctly, but it still doesn't work. Do you have any suggestions to help me solve this problem?

What TV capture device are you using, and how are you connected to your set top box?

I use 4K HDMI to USB C 3.0

There is no built-in support for this device. The only supported HDMI capture devices are those with hardware encoders, like the Hauppauge Colossus 2, HDPVR, HDPVR2, Rocket etc.

You can roll you own support with an Extra. I seem to remember this scenario has been discussed a few times in the past. The search should lead you to threads like https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=64495 (last post sounds like he got it working)

NextPVR is not OBS so it takes quite a bit of research and setup . It isn't just a setting up the capture device it also involves setting up some sort of blaster to tune channels.

As a new user learning to two new things I wouldn't worry about NextPVR until I figured out the following which can be quite difficult.

1. How do you plan on tuning your HDMI source to get different channels? If you aren't planning on tuning don't bother with NextPVR just use OBS for manual recording.

2. Can I capture from the command line with FFmpeg? For Windows a great guide is here https://www.rickmakes.com/using-a-cheap-...indows-10/

3. Is your PC fast to enough to create a reliable 1 hour recording in step 1? Most cards you buy cannot, many are not USB3 and certainly not really not 4K, although this is improving. Ideally you will want H264/AAC streams with the highest bit rate that your PC can handle. For this reason the HDPVR devices are strongly recommended and they are pretty cheap on eBay, kijiji and FB market.

4. Only after all that can we help you out with the question, how to set this up for NextPVR?

Also to expand on sub's response, the HDPVR device support in NextPVR is only in Windows but you still have to figure out how you will tune your device and also do with potential issues with HDMI DRM.

In Linux HDPVR and some HDPVR2 do work, but the Rocket does not. It is very reliably on Linux (I use both) but it also takes research on how to do this from the command line before considering NextPVR.
