Hello All,

I am trying to get Live TV to work with the NextPVR Kodi add-on.  Using Kodi 21.1 Omega, NextPVR 6.1.5.231022, and NextPVR Addon 3.3.2.1.  I configured the addon with IP address and PIN. I can see channels pulled into Kodi, but if I try to play anything it will either just die or say Playback Failed.  I don't think it's an issue with Kodi as I have tried this from multiple PC's with Kodi and the Addon installed with the same result.  I do see some errors in the NextPVR logs, so I will attach my logs here to see if anything can be found.

Also note, I don't have any issues when watching NextPVR from the main web interface or remotely from another browser. It's only when I try to use the NextPVR backend in Kodi to watch channels.

You seem to be mixing your versions. On one Windows machine you are using a very old unsupported version of Kodi/18.9 (19, 20, 21 and 22). I also don't even know pvr.nextpvr 3.3.2.1.

Your best bet is to update Kodi on that machine. If you really must use Leia then I suspect your configuration is using v4 protocol and we can probably change that but I would need to have the Kodi debug logs from it to confirm.

Yes, I have different versions of Kodi installed on different machines. I did update them but the issue was the same.  I also remembered that the install of NextPVR was a little old. Not the version, but the fact that I had installed over the top of older versions in the past. So I went ahead and backed up my scripts and guide data, completely uninstalled NextPVR, deleted the old NextPVR folder from Public that was part of an older version, then installed NexPVR again.  After rescanning and putting my guide data back, I launched Kodi and tried again.  Everything working now! ?

You are still better using a supported Kodi version, to get all the stability improvements and new feature, but glad it works. In the future include the debug Kodi log from the failing client, it would tell use why Kodi was giving up after 30 seconds.

Looks like I spoke too soon. It worked one time and then it didn't work again. I have attached both my kodi.log and NextPVR logs.

There is something wrong with your tuner or signal it took almost one minute to lock into a channel many times.

2024-09-11 00:32:16.487 [DEBUG][9] Starting graph...
2024-09-11 00:33:14.952 [DEBUG][9] Calling LockChannel()
2024-09-11 00:33:15.693 [DEBUG][9] locked=1, present=1, strength=-14, quality=100 (took 734ms to check)

How does WinTV work?

I don’t use the WinTV software.  I am using NextPVR. If your asking how does the WinTV tuner work I’m not sure what your asking. I know the drivers are not the best. Even in NextPVR it does take a bit to tune a channel. But the channels do tune. Is there a way to adjust the timeout?

Something is wrong with your setup, a digital tuner is supposed to tune in seconds. Maybe reinstall the drivers, Hauppauge drivers aren't typically bad. It could be USB, signal (too weak or too strong with an amp) not just drivers. The reason I asked for WinTV is to confirm that you getting really slow tuning since it is not a NextPVR problem.

I did some troubleshooting today.  I have had the tuner for years but had not used it for about 2 years or so.  I had a nagging issue with the Hauppauge drivers where every night when the EPG data would update, the system would BSOD.  So I stopped using it.  Then last year around Christmas time I tried using it because we had lost a local channel from our streaming lineup.  I found that Hauppauge still had not updated the driver package for the WinTV HVR-950Q.  But I figured out that if you don't download the stand alone driver package and instead run the WinTV 10 setup, it actually installs an updated driver prior to installation of the main app. My BSOD does not happen with the updated driver.  I used the tuner for a bit then stopped since I wasn't getting a great signal on certain channels and it was in fact taking a while to tune.  Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago.  I found good placement for my antenna so I am getting a better signal and we also just lost a channel again from streaming that we can get locally. I have been trying to get it set up with Kodi and NextPVR but have been running into the timeout issue, which is why I posted here.

Today, I put the tuner in another PC and installed both WinTV and NextPVR.  They both tuned to channels between 4-10 seconds.  So not the tuner and not the software. It has to be my main PC.  I then brought it back to my main PC and swapped to different USB ports on the PC than I was using before.  Using a specific row of USB ports, I am able to tune channels faster but it still seems a little slow at around 10 seconds. Better for sure and the Kodi plugin is also working.  Just not sure why the performance is so bad on the other ports.  I'm thinking it has to be another device on the root hub that is causing it the slow performance. I tried on the slow ports with all other USB devices disconnected and it was still slow, but I have a suspicion that my Corsair liquid cooler is on that hub and is probably causing the problem.

Oh well, I guess I just keep it where it is for now and probably get a better antenna while I'm at it.  Smile
