Hi,

I'm experiencing locks-ups. I'll be watching a recorded program, I'm not ff'ing, or anything, just watching. After some time - seems to be after twenty min or so usually, the screen will abruptly show the blue screen filled with white characters. I can't read anything - it goes black in a half second. i also get a burst of static on audio. Happens ever time I try to watch a video.

The computer's fan continues to run. If cap's lock is on, that stays on, but can't be then turned off. CR rom can be opened, it sounds like HD is still spinning. I can't get any more info becasue screen stays black. cntrl-alt-del doesn't do anything. I can sometime hold power button for a few seconds to "reboot" but pulling the power plug altogether works better.

I'm using a soyo mothor board with INTEGRATED video. The integrated TV out is my sole output, no monitor. I run XP pro with all updates. I have the last major GBPVR intall, but not the latest minor release ( everything was running so great, i don't want to mess with anything. Input is through a HAP 150 and I'm using the default software decoder.

Is it a bad motherboard/video "card" - or something that is software related? Any input is really appreciated!

To help diagnose your BSOD,you need to read the info when it Blue screen`s,im guessing you are using XP, to stop XP automatically rebooting do this.

Control Panel / System / Hardware / Advanced
Click the `settings` tab on the Startup and recovery`
then untick the `Automactically restart` checkbox

This will have the effect of letting XP keep focus on the BSOD,and not rebooting

Question...Does this happen when you play a Video via another media player>??
You really need to try this first,i imagine this is a system problem, and not a GBPVR problem

Could be a memory/hardware problem
Test your memory in DOS using
http://www.memtest86.com/ (create either floppy or bootable ISO)

or just stress test your machine using
http://sp2004.fre3.com/

If your machine fails either test, then check your hardware/temps/fans

Thanks so much for the help guys... It's FIXED!!!

I had thought it was something gbpvr becasuse that's the only time I had the problem - I also use machine for Itunes and living room web surfing. The problem probably only appeared during gbpvr use because the other two apps don't really put much strain on the system...

Anyway - i first followed the MS link and decided to upgrade my out-of-date bios. After the successful upgrade the blue screens now came constantly - even during boot-up. hmmm - at least now i have a new bios. I had spare memory, so I swapped that out next - and PROBLEM solved pvr's been runing five hours now perfectly. One of my simms must have been bad.

Even through I now have slower memory in the machine, the PVR playback is better than I've ever had before. Perhaps memory was always bad, but the system struggled along- or maybe the new bios flash helped that.

In any event - problem solved. Without your help, I would have been fighting SOYO all next week to get the board RMA'd - and that obviously wouldn't have solved anything. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!
