I have previously reported a problem with the random slide show working with the Beta versions. I noticed something interesting this evening. The official release had been made with a request to close the comments to the beta versions. Sad Some of the info from the beta version report is repeated here.

The way I use my setup. The machine that runs GB-PVR is a family computer used by myself and wife. Mostly on all day, off at night (varies between standby and off). I'm attempting to get proficient enough with GB-PVR, MVP, and networking to replace the Time Warner DVR.

Observation:
MyPictures does not remember the "Show animations while navigating/entering" selection.

When I start GB-PVR via the MVP and and check the setting the "Show animations while navigating/entering" is on (yellow) regardless of how I set and saved it when I last ran GB-PVR (either from desktop interface or MVP). When I turn this feature off and then start the random slideshow everything works as expected. New pic at the specified interval. Spouse and children were very happy at this point. :p If I do not change this setting and leave the "Show animations while navigating/entering" on and run the random slideshow then only the first pic shows. I can change pics by pressing (skip, ff, right arrow) on the MVP remote after the delay interval.

in the meantime you can just edit the config.xml file and add this under the pluginsettings node
Code:
<PluginSettings>
<MySeries>
      <ShowAnimations>false</ShowAnimations>
</MySeries>
</PluginSettings>
if any of the nodes already exist ("PluginSettings" will, and MySeries probably will, dont add those again, eg if both "PluginSettings" And "MySeries" exist just add the "ShowAnimations" one).

Reven,

Thanks for the suggestion. I implemented the suggested change as follows:
Before:
</MyPicturesPlugin>
<MyPicturesPlugin />
<MySeries>
<ShowTransitions>false</ShowTransitions>
</MySeries>
</PluginSettings>

After:
</MyPicturesPlugin>
<MyPicturesPlugin />
<MySeries>
<ShowTransitions>false</ShowTransitions>
<ShowAnimations>false</ShowAnimations>
</MySeries>
</PluginSettings>

The animations shows off (blue) when I check. The frustrating thing is that the random slide show does not work when I implement your sugguestion. What's even more frustrating is that after I take remove the change you recommended I cannot recreate the keystrokes on the MVP to make the random slide show work as I reported at the begining of this thread. :confused:

I rebooted the computer running GB-PVR after each change to the config.xml file. Now I'm at a loss.

The wife and kids are down for a nap now. I positioned myself to look at the lights on my router. I noticed one interesting thing. When I run a sequential slideshow I notice that the lamps on the ports for the MVP and computer running GB-PVR flash several times when the photos change. The odd thing is that the lamps on those two ports flash in a similair fashion when I run a random slide show. No picture change on the TV. So it looks like the computer running GB-PVR is transmitting something to the MVP. It's just very odd that there is not a picture change.

The family really likes the pluggin. I really appreciate the time you're spending to try to help me out. Thanks

i cant really provide support for the mvp since i dont have one. and theres no reason i can think of why it shouldnt work (once you turned the "show image transitions" off).

nah i dont want a MVP, i dont think they are very good devices, too many limitations.

my pics runs completely stable on my pc, its just the MVP (and only been reported by one or two users, and well the beta was downloaded by about 60 users, before the download counter stopped working).

reven,

I also have the problem with the random slideshow not working on the MVP. Works fine on the PC, transitions and all. I tried it without transitions on the MVP, still same. On the MVP it shows the first picture and stops at that one.

The last attempt was around 16/10/2005 7:20:29 a.m..710 , it built the image list (1254 images) then did the above.

I attach the gbpve.exe.log previously discussed if it helps to identify the problem, (the logs get pretty big don't they, I wasn't sure if I should chop out the stuff above 7:20 but left it in in case you needed it) and there are quite a few "failed test: 5" errors. Not sure if these are relevant.

Cheers
k.
