Yes there is a freeware version on the site... Go to download and then scroll to the bottom of the Matrix of products. There is Free DVD and DVDFabDecrypter.

What bitrate does everyone use when ripping DVD's to get decent quality?
High bit-rate is nice for MVP use, but it fills up the HD faster than X-vid.
