Just received my new MVP and it's a rev D3, I've read about problems with this version and having to return them to Hauppauge.

Are all rev D3's doomed to overheating & reboot issues or are some of them OK ?

You'll find out pretty quickly. The first time I used mine it worked for about 30 minutes. It lost connection with the server, and went back to the "connecting to server" screen. It stayed on that screen until we unplugged the power and let it sit for about 15 minutes.

It worked pretty good for a couple weeks. Just long enough for my wife to fall in love with it. At about week three, it started losing the connection at about 15 to 20 minutes of operation. We messed with it for about another week. I tried the MVP tweaks, software updates, etc. Nothing fixed it. However, if we unplugged it for about 30 minutes, it would reconnet for another 15 or 20 minutes.

I called Hauppauge support. The first guy I talked to told me they don't support third-party software with MVP and I'd have to use their software. He emailed me a link to some Beta MVP software. I called again a couple days later and different guy offered to replace it right after I mentioned I had a D3.

You're mileage may vary.
