Hi All - I'm trying to resolve my issue on "black screens" instead of video, menus work (or worked). I ended up installing the hauppauge mvp software that proved the device worked, but that seemed to add to my problems. Then I saw this quote in an old post in the MVP forum:

4) To resolve the black screens: install WinTV2000 version 4.7 (build 23045) http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/suppo...rt_pvr150.html

Is there any truth to this? - I never installed the winTV2000 app initially, so maybe there is a file there that is needed? However, it doesn't seem to have sense so I wanted to ask before I added extra code to my system - that usually makes things worse for me!

My status so far... I've UNinstalled that Haup MVP software trying to get rid of a hang up at "loading application", remember that I didn't have thid before installing that code. ~ I was able to get the GBPVR menu screens - but not any more - now it hangs forever at "loading application."

I see that my router has a setting that says dhcp server enabled and I see the gbpvr host system IP in the router. So I think I've ruled out the dhcp problem. I've also turned off my xp firewall and let my mvp sit for a few minutes without power to get a reset.

I'm presuming that my system is trying to get or load the doongle (never changed the lastest on set up in GB software) but it isn't successfully loading.

any ideas? man - I can feel my blood pressure going up!

unplugging DSL and switch reset something and now I get all gbpvr menu functionality! - but no video - just a black screen...

So I'm back where I was before, with is good! This brings the previous question to the forefront again - do I need to have winTV2000 installed for the MVP to play video? the origional poster seemed to think so... and it would appear to fit my problem to a t...

thanks for your patients with me guys...

I find that, on my system I got a greenish un-tuned video picture when recording with gbpvr. I think, at some point in the past, I also got a black picture. In my case I had to do one, or all, of the below to get a good picture:

1. Set to primary a few times in the Hauppauge primary tool. i.e. switch out of primary to something else, then back into it then close the app. Seems you need to do this a few times for it to take - at least on my system.

and that didn't work, even after reboots, until I also did the following:

2. Install WinTV 2000 and tune it into a channel on the coax input. Make sure you just install the TV app and not any other drivers etc.

Only then did I get a good picture on the composite input of the PVR 150.

Until then, the gbpvr tuner app would see a channel but nothing would be displayed and all recordings were with a very bad picture.

It may just be my setup, and isn't a gbpvr problem, as other non-Hauppauge programs also do this until I do step 2.
GB-PVR 1.0.16 (recording service and database) running on: VIA EPIA 5000 (533Mhz), 512MB, 40GB HD, PVR-150MCE, USB-UIRT controlling Sky Digital box.

GB-PVR 1.3.11 (front-end and client for above) running on: Toshiba NB100 netbook 1.6Ghz, 160GB HD, 1GB RAM.

Front-end viewed on 2xMVPs (using mvpmc dongle).

Thanks borgs... were these observations you made through a MVP, or for your entire system as the time?

In my case, my recording are fine on my computer monitor, just not on the MVP. With the Hauppauge software ( I reinstalled it last night), I CAN see my recordings thought the MVP... but I'll give your suggestions a shot - thanks!

It was the entire system. Running the gbpvr tuning assistant application would find channels but nothing would be displayed in the window when it did. If you can see your recordings on your computer monitor this suggests a different problem I'm afraid.

It's worth a shot though, I'm fairly certain in the past, that I got a black window problem which I fixed by playing with the Hauppauge primary application. But things are a bit hazy as I've been tinkering with getting a working system for almost an entire year now and yesterday I think I finally got something I can live with. I certainly know how frustrating it can be. It's pretty much all down to the flaky Hauppauge drivers I'm afraid. You could also try the SHS forums at: http://www.shspvr.com/smf/

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestions though...
