I've given up on my problematic MVP and will instead run S-video cable based video from my computers' video card to the TV upstairs. I've research s-video and it appears that it can support suprisingly long cable runs http://www.cinematography.net/Pages%20DW...Length.htm

Anyway - I also need to bring the remote thing upstairs as well. To save money, can I just splice into the existing cable with something like non-stranded copper bell-wire? I don't image that it's carrying too sophisticated of an electrical impulse, but I thought I'd ask before snipping the wire!

Thanks!

You can just use a standard extender, a search on the forum reveals http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=10181

scott. for a couple bucks. you can buy an RF transmitter, its the size of a battery and goes in your standard remote. then you put the RF reciever/IR Tranmitter in the other room. And now your regular remote will work in any room of the house. (within relative distance)

Just make sure you try before you buy. Mine (cheap version) did work perfectly with TV remote, but refused to work with the Hauppage PVR-250 remote.
