This shouldn't surprise any of us... especially since we are still awaiting the "early summer 2005 release of IE7"....

FYI: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060322/ap_o...ft_windows

Microsoft Corp. will delay the consumer release of its new Windows operating system until January 2007, missing the holiday sales season and throwing some PC makers and retailers into turmoil.

The delay in Windows Vista — caused by Microsoft needing more time to enhance security and other functions — will come as a blow to Microsoft partners who were looking forward to a new operating system to boost holiday sales.

I dont think Vista will be welcomed by the htpc crowd... along with its nice interface comes all sorts of DRM evilness!

If anything, it could mean we'll see more extensions to the XP EOL date.

Not strictly true, as M$ is purported to be releasing 7(?) different versions of Hasta la Vista; if you want to watch HD content you will have to go for one of the 'Home' editions. It won't be like the current setup where home is basically pro with some features taken out; it will be completely different feature sets.

Personally, the day Sub stops supporting XP / requires Vista, is the day I switch to a Mac and iHome.

I agree,

I'd probably move to Myth or something else if forced to use Vista.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

You'll be able play them just like you can do today on XP.

Me too on certain of my systems but not all.
In my meager beta testing of Vista, I've been impressed with the improvements in the latest version. In fact, I've spent most of my Vista time using Media Center. It's easy to use but I don't find the quality as good as GBPVR/XP. In fact, the only times it semi crashed on me was using Media Center.
They still have a ways to go on the audio side IMO.
