Any samba users about?
I've got my recording directory on my GB-PVR box set up to share and when mounted on my ubuntu box playback of mpg's is so choppy as to be unusable. When I access the same directory from another XP box on the network no playback problems at all.
It's mounted via the /etc/fstab:
//dvrbox/c /dvrbox smbfs username=user,password=****** 0 0
