updating database with new file names

I've been manually transcoding mpgs to xvid and I was wondering if there was a way to let the recordings database know of the new files (basically just a new extension, .avi). I didn't quite know what to search for, so if there is a thread on this, let me know.

This is a great little import utility that will search and create a file for import. You can set the file types to whatever you are transcoding.

It will also directly import into the access database. Not sure about SQLite.

If you have GBPVR do the transcoding for you it will automatically update the database.

Yeah, but I wasn't crazy about the quality of the built-in transcoder "out-of-box" and i don't know how to use ffmpeg to change settings so that the picture looks better. Anyone get good results with gbpvr's transcoder?

If GBPVR can't find the mpeg file, it looks for the same file with an AVI extension so you probably don't need to manually update the DB.

Can any of these rename apps, just change the file path? I.e change a fixed drive letter G:\ for a machine name \\GBPVR\ etc?

it's not been updated for 0.97.n, i've not yet got round to upgrading so i haven't had to do it.

Would it take much to make it work on .Net2? I could do it for you if you don't have time. Maybe you could get it loaded on the wiki page under utilties.

I have a plugin that does it as you're going to watch a recording. But this is for another chap.

cheers for offering to have a look. i don't think it's getting it to work under .net 2.0 that's the problem, that should just require a recompile. the problem is the change in the way the database is accessed - it'd probably work straight off with access, but if people switch to sqllite then it definitely won't work. i might have a look at it this afternoon (i'm at work, but they can't expect me to do their bidding all day every day )

i'll post it in the wiki once i get it working
