I don't usually forward emails that I get asking to sign anything but I looked into one I got today and felt confident enough to drop it here. There are some that want to charge for use of the internet. What I found was "Congress is about to sell out the Internet by letting big phone and cable companies set up toll booths along the information superhighway. Companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast are spending tens of millions in Washington to kill "network neutrality" -- a principle that keeps the Internet open to all.

The issue moving quickly through Congress would let these companies become Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow -- and which won't load at all -- based on who pays them more. The rest of us will be detoured to the "slow lane", clicking furiously and waiting for our favorite sites to download.

Don't let Congress ruin the Internet:"

So, if you feel confident, sign up.True Majority

If this goes through I see it coming back & biting them on the ass.
If the owners of websites simply refuse to pay extortion to verizon or AT&T customer's will throw a hairy fit because their not getting the internet speeds they signed up for.

It's going to be a big mess & I see this as the perfect oportunity for city wide WIFI services without any of this bandwidth restriction nonsence to move in.

But the wifi services eventually run over at&t/sprint/etc backbones, so they can shape the traffic there.

Uh... how interesting, and i thought Europe or especially Germany were the only Ones with crazy ideas... Undecided

Europe:
The EG plans to take a "Tax" for E-Mails and SMS Service... ^^;

Germany:
The GEZ (it's the "Mafia" for the State to get money, if you have a TV, Radio or Internetconnection).
Starting at 2007 every Internet User has to pay this "Fee", even if he don't have any TV or Radio. Just using an Internet Connection is enough...

Wonderful, really wonderful... how bad turns the world. Everyone wants money... money for nothing.

Why do i pay to my provider? Isn't this enoug? I pay every month ~70 Euro for Internet @ Telephon...; for my thoughts this is more then enough.
