hey
sorry if this has been addressed a million times somewhere but here
it is anyways ^^
Would this whole pvr software and channel guide and ir stuff work on
say someone who doesn't have the conventional cable or pizza dish
satellites but for one who has the bigger satellite that change transponders
and whatnot. the reciever i own is the 4dtv DSR922 in cause anyone else has
a similar setup. hope i wasn't too confusing.
thanks

edit: to clairify what concerns me most is that i have to change satellite's (proubly easily overcome by a ir usb thing.) but also the stations listed are not only east coast time zones
at times but some channels are the west coast conterparts and was wondering if the guide
would display correct air times.

You can get C band and 4dtv info from zap2it and it's in local time. The big problem is controlling the receiver. As it is, GB-PVR sends only a channel number to the IR blaster, it doesn't kow anything about sat/transponder. It would probably be possible but you'd have to do some custom programming with something like HIP or roll your own IR controller...something to translate the channel number that GB-PVR knows to a sat/transponder command for your 922. I record off C band but only a couple channels. I have one of my tuners set to record off a fixed channel (4) that the C band receiver (an old GI 650) outputs on. If my computer was closer to the sat receiver I'd use composite input (the 650 doesn't do s-video). Problem is, I have to program the receiver seperately to move to the correct sat/transponder for the shows I want to record. Not a problem for the couple I record from (HBO and PBS) but it would be very awkward for much more. It would be a cool thing to be able to do but I don't know of anything that will do it. And since C band is (unfortunately but realistically) a small and dwindling market, I doubt that there is much incentive for someone to develop it.

OTOH, if you run across something that will work or decide to roll your own, let me know... Smile
