Tomorrow at Gamefest 2007 Microsoft will be detailing the new features in the 2.0 version of the XNA framework, one of which is networking support. Webcasts of the presentations will be available at this link.

I'm guessing its some higher level protocol designed for inter-game communication (probably via Microsoft servers), with no ability to do the simple TCP/IP communication you'd require for emulating a MVP - but it would be nice if it was real TCP.

That's unfortunately the most likely outcome. I'll be sure to report back if they anounce something better.

I just finished watching the webcast about networking with XNA. Unforunately, there will be no support for TCP or sockets ever. (They clearly stated that they dont want anything but games being created with the XNA framework.)

However, viewing guide data and scheduling recordings might be possible. The cross platform networking feature sends data back and forth using "packet" objects. One could write a windows "game" using the XNA framework which reads the GBPVR database and sends the data to xbox clients (and vice versa).

Bummer, but as I expected.

I am not a programmer, but I do find it interesting how Orb and Tversity can emulate a media sharing pc to utilize the 360 as a media extender.

Honestly though, using Vista Premium through the 360 works great, except no commercial skip and I only have it on my laptop, and getting to work indirectly is difficult (that is laptop->router->ap->360).

Tversity is just a upnp server serving music the Xbox360. What people were hoping for was the ability to do a full client for the Xbox360, as in seeing the normal GB-PVR interface on the console rather than just using its built in interface for playing music from a upnp server.
