I want to do manual recording, from the composite input on my PVR-150MCE, to record TV from my VCR and convert the VCR tape library to my HD MPEG library.

I tried using Microsoft's AMCap_DX9.exe program.
I got great picture and sound, and it saved to a very large AVI file.
Everything I try to use to view the AVI file, has problems with its format?

Does anyone do this type of recording or converting?
What programs can I use to get recordings to MPEG or DIVX formats?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Why not just use GBPVR? Define the capture source, press play on your video, and manual record on GBPVR - Hey presto an MPEG!
To be fair there has been a lot of discussion about using GBPVR to back up video, and you should search the forums first as there are some possible issues and difficulties that may arise, but give it a go and see if it works for you....

P.S I'm a little confused by the mention of 'HD' in your question - I'm hoping you just mean you have some HD recordings, not that you're trying to record VHS to HD - that would just ba a waste of space due to the low resolution of the original VHS....

Sub usually replies that this is not a prime use of GBPVR. The Win2000 software from Hauppauge works fine for this type of work and you can downloaded it for free if you don't already have it installed. The PVR150MCE natively records MPEG 2 format using hardware encoding. Any AVI must be a conversion.

Thanks Guys for your help.
I setup another capture device using the same Tuner card but selected the composite input instead of tuner input. It works fine.
