Hello,
I currently have an EDTV, but SD looks terrible on it...okay, not terrible, but not as good as HDTVSmile

What card can I use with gbpvr that will do HDTV, and support Directv? Currently I have the following hardware, and am just waiting to buy a video card and tv card.

1.8ghz AMD Duron
1 gig ram
300 gig hard drive
simple motherboard that will work with LAN/sound on board

What would you fine folks reccommend as a video card and tv card. I want to be able to watch live tv, as well as record at the same time.

TIA,
Scott

A duron 1.8Ghz is not going to play 1080 HDTV signals as its not fast enough especially if you have onboard graphics card. It might just do 720p even then at a push.
As your probably got an agp slot on you motherboard (well you might not but you don't give out any information about what mobo you have) then something like a geforce 6200 or 6600GT would be a good choice for a graphics card.
On the TV card I beleive in the US you can only really get over the air HDTV and not sat or cable HDTV on a pc unless your set top box has firewire out, or dvico range for non encrypted QAM channels on cable which doesn't work with GBPVR.

My TV only does EDTV, so the 480 resolution is max. It is a Maxent 42" Plasma, but the HDTV channels look very nice on it. The Mobo I have is a Foxconn with an 8X AGP slot. I have just heard some conflicting opinions on which video card to use, so wanted to make sure I get a good one. Basically I just need a tv card that will do digital, I will purchase the USB IR Blaster so that I can change channels on the Directv set top box with my PVR remote. Would you reccommend just going with an analog card, and if so, will that work with the Directv system.

Thank you for the answers.

All you need to have pc output to would be 480p...im not sure how a pc would output a progressive signal though...

The HDTV channels look better because they are shot to look better, hdtv on an sdtv still looks good...
