I have two difference IR Blaster

  1. ADS Tech IR Blaster
SMK (Came with my Hauppauge 500)

Neither show up as supported within GBPVR.
Can they be used? Care to share you knowledge?
Or should I just spend some more cash and get a USB UIRT?

I dont have either of these, so there is no built in support, but its quite likely you can still use them via HIP, or some other utility callable by the '.exe channel changer' option.

I started looking at HIP and will see what can be done.

I wouldn't mind sending one if you'd like to add it the supported list later.

The SMK that came with the PVR500 is probably an MCE-compatible blaster...mine was (is). Plug it into a USB port and see if Windows recognizes it. You'll need XP Pro, tho, or get the eHome files from a Pro system (search the forum for a list of the necessary files, it's been discussed a few times). Then it will work as an MCE2005 unit, both the remote and the blaster. The built-in blaster support in GB-PVR may work for you but you may need to use HIP (sub recommends HIP but the built-ins work for me).

TH built in support for the MCE2005 remote work to a varying degree. I found it was much better to install HIP...

Remember to use the alternate driver...

HIP isn't exactly user friendly.... so I just ordered a USB-UIRT overnight will see what happens.
