Temporarily increase Recording Service Priority

Hi,

For those of us without dual core CPUs and without a dedicated computer to serve as a PVR, it would be nice to have an option that increases the priority of the recording service just during the time that an actual recording is taking place. I know that it has been stated that it is not good to leave the priority elevated, hence the suggestion. As soon as the recording is done, bump the priority back down to normal again. This would perhaps help with skipping on lower end PCs when they are being used while a recording is in progress.

I dont generally think its a good idea to increase the priority (even temporarily), since it can cause CPU starvation for other processes, but if you really want to increase the priority you can use the <ForceHighPriorityRecordingService> setting in config.xml.

Yes, and I have seen that recommendation in another thread. However, as I recall, the user in that case had a problem with the EPG updating as a result of the recording service remaining at a higher priority. In order to reduce the likelihood of an issue, the recording service priority could be bumped back down (automatically) after the recording. Then perhaps there would be no problems with the EPG or other tasks. Just a suggestion.

By the way, congratulations (and many thanks!) on a truly fantastic PVR application!
