Etacovda Wrote:to be frank, if you have limited pc experience, gbpvr isnt for you. If people were PAYING for gbpvr, sure... but choosing a tuner is relatively straightforward, i personally think the most complicated part for new users, even users with decent pc knowledge (at least, in nz) is setting up your epg source etc, especially for the likes of xmltvnz, since you have to set up a scheduled task. TIVO or MCE might be better for those people...
In my case, i had to configure xmltv, make a .bat file, download tweakUI and enable automatic log on, and then set up the scheduled task. I'm not sure what its like when you're using the likes of zap2it or whatever others use, but thats waaay too complicated, but thats not gbpvrs fault really...

This is off topic, but you're right. thye epg is the toughest. And soon North Americans are going to see what that's all about... (with zap2it dying)

I think a revist of wiki pages for the EPG is vital... I'll be doing that soon.

A simple "first time setup guide" so those people get it up and running fast.
that way they start to enjoy the benefits of it and could learn the tweaks later.

I just thought of a search engine of sorts which list all cards. Then there would be links to the wiki pages that would help you configure those cards.

The big problem is scope. There's lots of cards. It would be terrible for everyone to have access and make changes on their own...

I think I could make an online form for people to fill out when they have gathered basic setup instructions. The forms information could be group emailed to a few guys that would update either an online web database, or a downloadable program's db.

It's a big task. And there would be only a very few people who would see it through and help. Generally, when their own problem is fixed, people become less active...

If the process to gather the information, collate it and distribute it is easy (REALLY EASY) then we may be able to do what's suggested here...

zehd Wrote:Linking to wiki might be good. But we should know, it's sub's Program but not sub's wiki. (It's user driven)

sub tries to make sure pages are correct with their information, I'm sure, but I wonder whether he would want to link to something that is so easily changed by lots of people...
Well it depends on what subs ambition is with this program. If the WIKI had not been there, I would never use this program. I think that applies to many people here.
I have watched your work on improving the documentation with great appreciation. I think it would be a mistake to ignore such efforts by not making links in the configuration program. If it is considered a risk that many can change the content, then this community should think about other governance mechanisms on the WIKI.
