I have sometimes liked getting an ego stroke seeing 10 or 20 new downloads of something I put up there. I am modest, small numbers like that make me happy.

The community skin's page has a download for a Christmas theme. It has been downloaded about 180 times. That was cool.

In the last 24 hours that jumped to over 14,900 downloads (highly unlikely in late Jan don't you think?). Something is causing these counts to jump through the roof. What I don't get is that obviously there couldn't have been that many downloads. I wonder what kind of internets causes these results.

Or you are running a bot-net that's causing this, just to get your ego up.Big Grin. Now there are xx-thousand people wondering what those files are doing on their pc.

I remember this happened once before. I havnt done anything on machine in the long time, so I can only guess some wiki bug causes the wiki counters to become corrupt or reset some times.

That is giving me too much credit in the smarts department. I know what a web bot is (a thing that goes out in one of the internets tubes and does stuff), and yet, I have no clue what a web bot is (How do you make one).:p

If anyone watched the youtube link I posted before....

Isn't amazing that we Americans are the self proclaimed leaders of the free world with politicians like that?

ROTFL, well, the US&A has re-elected an ex-alcoholic as a president, some facts don't need any comment Big Grin
then again: the US&A at least get rid of a president after 10 years (and can hope he's not having to big a family spread over the country & involved in politics Wink), we have to endure our cancelor as log as he (or currently she) is re-elected.

by the way: have any of you from the US&A seen borat? if yes, what did you think in particular about this 3 scenes:
- borat checking out that hummer with the salesman
- borat just before his hymn singing on the rodeo chatting with that guy
- borat in the middle of that church happening

now the french can complain again Wink

The Basic skin jumped from 3600 to almost 19000 downloads in one day.
Not very likely that someone has clicked on the download link that many times. Strange!!

I cant explain why they've taken a big jump, but I can change the number back to what it was. I've reset Basic Skin to 3600. If anyone else wants their counter reset, then let me know what it was and I'll change it.

Looking at the wiki .download.manager file, it only seems to affect a very small number downloads (just these two?). The vast majority seem to have what sounds like realistic numbers to me.

Sometimes the counters can go nuts when a user hits the abort key, just as the file is being written too. I've had some php scripts corrupt files when this happens. The way to avoid the file corruption seems to be to add the following line in the script that needs write access to files:

ignore_user_abort(true);

This will cause it to complete its write to the file, even if a user aborts the download. That particular line might have to be added to the downloadman.php script. It would be a very very odd occurence though, as that file is opened end closed pretty quickly.
