Joint stereo

First let me say thanks for the ML2 plug-in - great work! Just one thing though - some tracks just won't play -- ML2 just refuses to play them, nothing happens and, if they're in a playlist, ML2 just stops.

I've tried to identify what differences there might be between those that will and won't play, and one seems to be that some are encoded in joint stereo (not entirely sure what that is tbh).

Would that make a difference? If not, what other elements should I look for please?

Try playing the same said tracks in the normal gbpvr music library and secondly in windows media player.

If it works in neither of those then it must be the tracks. If it works in media player but not gbpvr, I'd suggest you post a message in the support forum for sub to read since it is his routines that ML2 is actually calling to play the tracks...

Finally got around to checking this out. The files in question won't play using ML or ML2, or WMP. In WMP I get the following error message (which is hardly conclusive):

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error message for the following reason:

You are trying to play an MP3 file that contains compressed ID3 headers. The ID3 header is a portion of the file that stores the song's album information (for example, the song name, artist name, album name, and genre). This information is sometimes called a "tag."
To fix the problem, make a copy of the file and then use a non-Microsoft ID3 tag editing program to remove or reset the file's ID3 headers. After you remove the ID3 headers, Windows Media Player should be able to play the MP3 file.

Attempting to remove ID3 headers might damage the file and make it unplayable. Therefore, always make a copy of the file before you edit it.

If this solution does not resolve the problem, the file might be corrupted.

In your config.xml file try turning usewindowsmediaforaudio to false and see if that makes a difference.

If windows media doesn't like it then it's likely that gbpvr wont, since it mostly just uses whatever codecs wmp does.

No, you're right - that doesn't work either...

maybe package up you gbpvr logs and put a posting in the main support forums and see if sub can help.

Based on the WMP error message above, all I can really suggest is installing some alternative MP3 decoder. You may find one that copes with this file type better than the default MP3 decoder included with Windows.

I have ffdshow installed - does that decode MP3s?
