Just upgraded to the latest version last night so I've yet to test the new caching function.... how ever very quickly....

Is there a way to start playing the file while downloading in the same way YouTube does for real ? I'm hoping there is ( having searched I could not find an answer ) as I guess the file could be dealt with in the same way a live program been paused etc would be ?

If not would it be possible to add it in ?

Terran

PS Thanks for adding YouTube Sub - it keeps my eldest happy for ages....

Sub,
I know this is a long shot but I just put together an FLV player by using Flvsplitter and ffdshow. Both filters are under GPL license so I don't have any idea how that affects you. Any chance of incorporating an FLV player in some future release to speed up youtube videos?

EDIT: Hmm image didn't appear inline - please click on it to view

I actually tried using those filters in the past, but it cant be used on files that are still growing/downloading or with network sources, so it doesnt help with this poster's request to view the file while downloading.

Yeah I tried it with an async file source and it worked very well. Should have tried it with a network source.
Still, it would still eliminate the need for transcoding which would cut down on the wait time after the file is downloaded, and for people like me with slower PVRs it could help out with the stuttering issue.

That said, it sounds like a lot of work for a feature that already works though...

The guy that is developing the splitter hasn't worked on it in a while seemed to be a little miffed that it was used without his permission in a commercial product. I might sniff around a bit and see if there is any chance of new work on it in the future.

I did consider doing it this way. It didnt seem worth it given very few poeple would have these components installed, and I cant distribute them with GB-PVR. Sure I could tell people to go and download them, but most people wouldnt. I like to have things working 'out of the box' if I can.

I see your point. The gb-pvr network file source loads the file but can't agree on a connection to the splitter.
