Sorry to labour the point...does this mean that under PVRX2, the output is sent to the PCs normal display, rather than that connected to the PVR350 card? (Currently GBPVR gives me a black screen with a message along the lines of "The recording is being sent to the output device").
If so, I don't see the problem (which means I must be missing something) - why can't I use the PVR350 as a capture device, and drive the TV from the PC graphics output?

I think you can. It's just that most people with a 350 want to use it's output. It still works as a tuner/capture card.

Yes, you can do that. The point is that some people really, really, really want to use the tv-out on their pvr-350 (mainly because its superior image quality, and perhaps because they have a crappy graphics card in ther pc). That would probably not work with pvrx2.

So, my next question is: can I run PVRX2 side-by-side with my previous GBPVR install? I'd like to try the new version, but without having to do too much work to roll back to the previous version if my graphics output (or some other corrollary of using the PVR350 card) means it' not satisfactory.
Yes, you can. Once you upgrade to 1.0.16, you will have two executables: one called gbpvr.exe that will call up what was version 98.13 and one called pvrx.exe which will call up the new version. The good news is that the family can continue to use the version they are used to until you get any quirks worked out (changing video decoders, renderers, audio decoders, renderers, etc). You can also continue to use the older version for any plugins that have not yet been updated to the new version. Sub has said that the older version won't be updated any further and will eventually be dropped so the sooner you are comfortable making the switch, the easier the transition will be.

And the answer is, for anyone using a PVR350 card, that it'll work just fine if your graphics card is up to it.
In fact, I'm really pleased with the upgrade. The new UI is great, of course, but even better (from the point of view of a PVR350 user) is that now I can play DVDs from the computer, and use the Hauppauge remote to control them just like a recorded program. Next thing is to get a SPDIF cable from PC to A/V amp so that I get proper Dolby 5.1 sound too.
Excellent stuff, Sub. I made a donation when I started using GB-PVR a couple of years ago, but this upgrade might justify another one :-)
