Hi !
When I start Live TV, I get this bubble "Recording has started". When I stop Live TV, I get "Recording has ended". Bug ?
Using Version: 1.6.2746.21588.

Nope, not a bug. When you watch Live TV, GB-PVR starts recording. Live TV is actually not live at all, it is usually about three seconds old! This is because GB-PVR records the television channel requested and then plays back that recording a very short while later. When you stop watching Live TV GB-PVR stops recording. Slimm GB-PVR simply lets you know about this and tells you which tuner is being used and that it is for Live TV (Live Preview) mode.

I didn't know that ! Does that mean I need to keep space to cater for the recording ? Where does it record to ?

Win TV that comes with my PVR 150 does not do that. Can I ask why does GBPVR use this technique ?

Yes, but you don't need to worry about it. GB-PVR will sort itself out automatically and you are very very unlikely to have too little space.

If absolutely necessary, this feature can be disabled from GB-PVR Configuration, Misc tab: uncheck Use Live Preview mode if possible. Even in this case, Slimm GB-PVR will still let you know that one of your tuners is being used to watch television but hard disk usage will be minimised. You will also lose all the features discussed below.

csc12345678 Wrote:Where does it record to ?

GB-PVR Configuration, Directories tab: Live TV Buffer Directory. A file is temporarily created in here when you watch live television and it is deleted when you stop. By default this is the C: drive.

csc12345678 Wrote:Win TV that comes with my PVR 150 does not do that. Can I ask why does GBPVR use this technique ?

GB-PVR allows you to pause live television, for example, if you need to answer the phone or something. You can also rewind any live television you have watched in the current session, your own instant replay. If have paused and are currently trailing live (for example, if you pause live television for two minutes and then press play, you will be two minutes behind what is actually being transmitted) you can skip forward. All these features require the live tv buffer.

Also, using the live preview feature tends to improve the picture quality.

WinTV is a barebones application more designed to confirm that your card works than to be of any practical or pleasurable use. However, I believe that WinTV does have these options somewhere and it also will record to hard disk like GB-PVR when these features are enabled.

I turned off Live Preview but I don't see any differences !

I think Win TV display real time. Only when I want it to go timeshift then it starts to record. Shouldn't it be like this ? Rather than going timeshift when I want to watch real time ?

Like Mr. Slimm said 'this feature can be disabled from GB-PVR Configuration, Misc tab: uncheck Use Live Preview mode'
If the feature is disabled then it will work the same as wintv.

It doesnt record anything when you're in live preview mode. When you start timeshift mode, then it starts recording files.

1. I uncheck "Use Timeshift mode if possible", yet it still record. Using PVRX2. Bug ?

2. If I don't use Timeshift mode by default and I'm halfway through, it is possible to activate timeshift ? This is more suitable for me. By default, I don't want to timeshift.

3. In WinTV, it treats timeshift and recording during a show as separate features. I'm actually am more interested in the ability to record a show half way through. eg. If I watch a show and I saw something interesting I want to share with my friends, I want to activate recording. In Wintv, if I press a OTR button, it would record in incremental time, eg 15min, 30min, etc... something I'm looking for in GVPVR. I wonder if you intend to introduce this feature. The incremental time is also impt. eg if I watch halfway and I'm called to attend to something and leave my house, I would like it to stop recording after an hour rather than record non-stop.

You still get the balloon because you are still using a tuner. The balloon pops up whenever one of your tuners starts or stops being used.

These two questions are not related to Slimm GB-PVR.

Have a look around on the wiki and forums. I am sure your questions have already been answered.

Also, be aware that PVRX2.exe does not have as many features as the original GBPVR.exe at this time. Using Slimm GB-PVR, you can choose which one to use under Options / Tray Configuration / Miscellaneous.

As far as I know, GB-PVR only enters timeshift mode when you pause Live TV. Also, if you press Record during Live TV, GB-PVR will record. As I do not use these features personally, I know no more than that.

As this topic is no longer related to Slimm GB-PVR, I am closing this thread.

What makes you think its recording? If you've got live preview enabled (and not using an MVP), then it wont record.

If you're sure its recording, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Yes, you can do this - just press the pause button and it switch to timeshift mode.

There is no OTR button, but you can press the record button and select how long you want it to record for (til end of show, til specific number of minutes etc).
