Hey sub, if you talk to these guys, I have a cost controlling idea. If open source developers, like yourself, are willing to design a plugin interface that allows server side control of what time of day the connection is made, they could spread out server activity and get by with less muscle (I think). Instead of being bombarded with traffic at whatever default time particular programs set, on the first connect (and each subsequent connect for that matter) they could apportion their users across a wider time period.

If the interface allowed picky users to opt out and choose their own connect time, everyone wins. I doubt all that many people care when the update takes place-though the ones that do might be very vocal.

bobsmith Wrote:Thanks sub. I'm not sure what to do. My main concern is running into hardware limits with v1.0.16. The PC dedicated to our TV is 2002 vintage, and I'm not entirely clear what I'd need to run v1.0.16. Here's what I have:

--512MB RAM
--Pentium4 - 1.6GHz.
--Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150
--Radeon 9250 (with 256MB) Video Card

Is that enough? I meet the list of hardware requirements on the homepage, but do those still stand with the newest version? Or would adding another 512MB stick of RAM get me there? Thanks.
I am using a laptop (Thinkpad R40) with pentium M 1.4 GHz, 512MB RAM, Hauppauge WinTV-PVR USB2 (same as 150 but USB), and mobility radeon 7500. v1.0.16 works better for me then any pre 1 version of GB-PVR. You shouldn't have any problem with your setup.

Related to the poll, I will sign up as soon as it is available. The price is going to drop a bit for sure. If they reach their goal $20/year I don't know why anyone would want to mess around with screen scrapers.

Thanks wasteland! That is very good to know; your horsepower is quite similar to mine. Last night I installed v1.0.16, but I'm using GBPVR.exe.
GBPVR 1.4.7; VMR Full Screen Exclusive; Cyberlink Video SP Decoder; XP Home; DirectX 9c; Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150; Asus P5B-E motherboard with on-board sound; NVidia GeForce 7600GS/256MB; Intel Core2Duo E6400 2.13GHz; 4 GB RAM; This PC is dedicated to GBPVR & connected to an old standard def TV via S-Video cable.

Microsoft attempts to do this with MCE with their 3 am scheduled download and I'm sorry I hate that logic. I want to control when my machines connect to the internet.

As do I, but you and I make up maybe 5%. I really doubt most people care. For us, there's last part of my post:

Anyone who wants that level of control isn't going to really flinch at having to uncheck a box to opt out.

I think Myth does something like this. There is something embeded in the data called "suggested next download". You can configure Myth to accept the suggested download time or set anything you want.

I'm up and running as well with XMLTV.org's latest grabber. Did the switch over to day, and didn't have to do any additional configuration. I'm still using a year old version of GBPVR and had switched to XMLTV a long time ago (had issues with the old zap2it timing out). Anyways, nice an painless, and it's worth it to me to pay the $5 a month, to make sure it's around for everybody else in the future.
