My 1.X MVP Experience

I hope this is not a repeat or useless information, but I wanted to share my experience in setting up GBPVR with my legacy MVP this weekend.

I am an old time GB-PVR user and had left it for a while, but now have moved and desire to use it again. I was excited to see the 1.X level of the application, but have found that to not be a good choice when a MVP is in the mix.

I have found 1.0.16 and 1.0.8 to be borderline unusable when a MVP is the primary tool. I especially want to use the music playing and internet radio functionality, which I understand net radio is missing in 1.0.16 and maybe in 1.0.8.

Here is the process that provided the most joy...
1. Download and install the latest MVP software from Hauppage. I used the latest beta mediamvpsetup_33_25032.exe
2. Go to the services interface (Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Service)and stop, then set to manual the MVPMedia service. Leave the MVPMediaSvc alone.
3. Install GBPVR09912.msi, try ever so hard to resist the newer versions.
4. Place you pls files in the "C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Net Radio" directory. Add a leading number to the beginning of the file name of pls files to enforce sequence. (Get pls file from http://www.shoutcast.com)
5. Edit the config.xml and set the MVPHeight to 420 (this is the height I found to look the best on my TV). BE SURE TO INLY USE NOTEPAD when editing :mad: !
6. Do config gui edits then power cycle the MVP.

That's it.

Thats a bit rough. For the most part, the new MVP server in 1.0.x is worlds better than the old GBPVR.exe one in previous releases. It is much faster, and much more stable.

If you really want Net Radio, then I cant understand that 1.0.x might not do it for you, but other than Net Radio I think the new release is much better than earlier ones. It should be fine for any other music functionality.

Sorry, no ruffness intended. I think the product is an amazing tool and I enjoy it greatly. I just spent a lot of hours scratching my head and then could not find a good cook book in the forum or on the wiki for what I wanted to do; which was primary net radio.

Thanks very much for you efforts. GBPVR is by no means a target of criticism, it's just that rookie users like me may have difficulty with the newer version when combining a MVP with desires of Net Radio.

If you want to use NetRadio and PVRX2, until it is supported by PVRX2, you might want to check out the mvpmc dongle. It allows direct playing of most mp3 and ogg streams without needing a PC.

Regarding your setup I'd be concerned about the fact that you are running GBPVR and the Hauppauge servers together. You could have conflicts on the media stream.

That's it.

I hope some of my observations from what your wrote might help you.

1. I seem to recall a problem with the dongle.bin in 9912, this was why used the dongle provided in 9905 which was more stable, or you might want to opt to try mvpmc, which I have been using for a while now and has been stable.

2. I think you have Hauppauges software still running, as I had no reason to use any of Hauppauge's software when it comes to using GBPVR.

3. You must have left a long time ago, since the transferring of .pls files from http://www.shoutcast.com was last used in 96.13 or somewhere there abouts, since that time Net Radio can program your favorites using the interface.

4. MVP tip: if you have more than 1 MVP, load 1 at a time as somehow loading at the same time will not work.
