With the introduction of all the newfangled features in PVRX2, as well as my need for more space upstairs, I decided it is time to retire the Beast and turn my office computer into a GBPVR server. Here's the specs on the old one:

PIII 866 on "Slocket"
P3V4X Motherboard
V3XT 128 Video using S-Video out to 32" SD-TV
896 Mb PC-133 Ram
PVR-150MCE
HVR-1600
SB Live!
160Gb Seagate
40Gb Maxtor
Wireless LAN ZyXel

This whole system ran nearly flawlessly since I joined in March 2005 with a few changes in hardware along the way. I only used it for SDTV so it worked out well.

The system I'm moving to now is as follows:

Athlon 2500+ O/Cd to a 3200+
512mb DDR
ATI Radeon 9600pro 128mb AGP
PVR-150MCE
HVR-1600
320gb RAID1
200GB Video drive
SB Audigy2

MediaMVP on a Zyxel P-330W wireless bridge

It's still a dated system but I have it up and running now flawlessly and nearly without a hitch again (knocks on wood)

Only issues I am having are adding back in my PVR-250 to have 3 tuners. With the 150MCE and HVR-1600 both in there adding the 250 causes some sort of conflicts that I suspect are driver related. Any thoughts on that are welcomed. I also cannot get the dongle.bin.config to load for mvpmc and I suspect this may be due to my bridge. I need to hard wire test it to see if that solves it and then work backward.

The problems with dongle.bin.config will not be related to the bridge if mvpmc loads and connects to GBPVR properly. This problem is almost always related to how you have the Windows guest share configured. If you want to discuss this more open a thread in the mvpmc forum, although note some people have changed their networking so much from the Windows defaults that they can't get it to work because they don't know everything they've done.

Is see you have a V3XT 128 graphics card. These where supposed to be really good for SDTV over S-video. I always wanted one but was never able to get one here in the UK. Did you think that it gave a crisp image?

Incidently I had a MSI FS35 with VIA 1.2mhz C3 with initally an ATI Radeon 7500 then a Nvidia 5200. IT was totally fanless and ran for aobut 2 years absolutly flawless in fact I wich I never upgraded it to my present system

The image was quite good but the processing performance that you really need on these systems was not up to par. Honestly if it was not for that graphics card, I would probably still be using that P3 866 which was otherwise completely capable of running the system. At one time I put the 9600 in the P3 box and the performance increase was immediately noticible. I was never able to test out the component out on the card since I do not have an HDTV. I paid $50 for it which at the time was a good deal for an experiment.

Martin, Yep, I've been reading MVPMC threads all day long and I am going to thoroughly investigate the file sharing before much else. I figure it is either a sharing issue or the bridge. Thanks for the vote of confidence on it not being the bridge though because I had my concerns there. I've got some good threads to start with to check and/or resolve file sharing. Unfortunately I haven't gotten to play with any of the cool mvpmc features yet but it loaded up easy enough. I highly recommend these routers as a bridge to anyone who asks, $10 on sale frequently and about 10 minutes at most to configure.

Thanks again

I suspect you will have fun and games getting 3 different hauppague tuners working..

what do you mean by "some sort of conflicts"

just a though: perhaps it is related to an interrupt conflict or the devices sharing interrupts.

try disabling both serial ports and the parallel ports to free up some interupts.

run Msinfo32.exe to see what you interrupt settings are.

btw: i have been using an amd 2500+ mobile at 2Ghz (its enough) + the 9600 pro for a few years now - works just fine.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give them a try. I'm just speculating on the driver or resource conflicts, I am unsure but will probably leave the tuners as-is for now since they run so well but will delve back into it once I get some other stuff worked out. I got mvpmc config file up and running over the wireless bridge, I ran through the whole list of sharing checks and settings. Not sure which one worked, but it's good to go now.
