Hello, I'm trying to use my computer to record TV shows, I'm trying to get all programs together before I start, I'm not that tech savvy, I came across a program called cbreak, It looks to be just right for my needs, which is record shows then remove the commercials, then watch the show on a television.
So cbreak will handle the commercial removal, but reading through the site, I don't have the slightest clue as how to get it to work, I downloaded it, there is a .bat file, an .xe file and a .txt file, I clicked on the .exe file nothing happens same with the .bat, here is the link:

http://devices.natetrue.com/cbreak/

maybe someone knows how to get it to work, thank you.

I'm always a bit distrustful of a user's first post being like this - sounds a bit spam like, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

I ensure you it's not spam, I'm just trying to figure out how the program works.

It doesn't work on native mpeg files and the author has stated he has no interest and in coding it to handle native mpeg. For this reason alone, I would not bother with that program.

Use ComSkip instead.

Reading about comskip, it skips commercials during playback on a PC, I want to remove the commercials, what can be used to easily do that?

Thanks.

i direct you to one of my favorite utilities: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utili...anscodeCut

Along with comskip it will cut out the commercials and shrink the file for you. I run a heavily modified version to do batch processing at night but it works great.

cbreak scans a recording for black frames and splits the recording in segments separated by black frames and deletes all segments of the recording that have a length that matches certain criteria.
This is like the live-tv detection algorithm in Comskip.
It is the most basic and most primitive method to detect commercials and it works, but there is nothing to tune and there are many broadcasting styles where it will not work at all.
So if you to want to try cbreak on mpeg then use comskip with the most simple settings.
