I have recently obtained a YUAN Ub680 USB2 TV Tuner with hardware MPEG encoding. Its apparently validated to work with MCE2005 but I would like to try and get it working with GBPBR.

The device has the CONEXANT CX23416 chipset which is apparently the same as that used in the PVR250. So would any of the currently available pin configurations defined in direct.ini be suitable for this UB680 device, or am I looking at using Graphedit to determine the configuration and adding a new entry to direct.ini?

The device is reasonably inexpensive so it might be worthwhile getting it to work and submitting the pin definitions back into the community.

Sub, would you be willing to give me some guidance in getting this to work - especially in using graphedit?

Hi whurlston

Attached is (hopefully) the Filtercheck log. After installing all of the drivers, I noticed that Windows XP identified the USB TV Tuner as a Python2 device. GBPVR does have a device setting for the Python2 but when I select the Python2 device in the Tuning Assistance it generates an error i.e. "Failed to find Crossbar filter. Wrong device Type?". I guess the configuration in Direct.ini is where the problem lies.

PS I have been successful getting this device to work in (and I now whisper) Media Portal - which identified the tuner as "Analogue Python2" and it worked just fine there. I was able to record and pause LiveTV so I am sure that its working. I would really like to get this working in GBPVR though for obvious reasons.

Please let me know what else I can do to help pinpoint the issue's. I have attached the log as filtercheck.txt.

Cheers and thanks for your assistance.

Try adding this to your direct.ini:

Hi whurlston, Unfortunately the Tuning Assistant generated the same error message i.e. failed to find the crossbar filter etc. I guess if the tuning assistant fails then GBPVR will also fail.

Hi whurlston

I installed graphedit and checked the names of the components which encouraged me to modify your direct.ini by removing the spaces between "Python" and "2". That seems to have resolved the issue for me and the tuner is now working in the Tuning Assistant. I will now complete some further LiveTV and Recording tests and report progress. Many thanks for your help - I appreciate it.

This is the direct.ini entry I used:

[YUAN Ub680 USB2]
INIT_MODE=IVAC
INIT_MSP=0
FILTER_CROSSBAR=Python2 USB Crossbar
FILTER_CAPTURE=Python2 USB WDM Encoder
FILTER_TV_TUNER=Python2 USB TvTuner
FILTER_TV_AUDIO=Python2 USB TvAudio
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_TUNER_IN=Video Tuner In
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_TUNER_IN=Audio Tuner In
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_DECODER_OUT=Video Decoder Out
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_DECODER_OUT=Audio Decoder Out
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_VIDEO_OUT=Analog Video
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_AUDIO_OUT=Analog Audio
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_IN=TVAudio In
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_OUT=TVAudio Out
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_VIDEO_IN=Analog Video In
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_AUDIO_IN=Analog Audio In
PIN_CAPTURE_CAPTURE_OUT=Mpeg Out
PIN_CAPTURE_PREVIEW_AUDIO_OUT=Audio Preview
PIN_WRITER_INPUT_IN=Input

Well, I thought the UB680 was working with the Tuning Assistance but the Assistant cannot render an image from the device. I was originally VNC'ing to the server box and assumed that this was why I could not see an image. However the tuning assistance does not generate an image even on the server box. Not sure why that is.

Regardless of that, the UB680 works fine with GBPVR itself both in LiveTV and Recording mode using the direct.ini adjustments above, so its a viable option providing you already know the analogue channels you want to tune to.

Ah, sorry about that space in the filter name. That was my mistake. I've never used the tuning assistant so I'm not sure on that. Glad you got it working. sub will probably add that entry to the ini file.
