Should the MVP boot from the GB-PVR service or does it need to boot from the Hauppauge service? I was under the impression that it would boot from GB-PVR but the other night I powered it down (unpluged it from the wall) to move it and when I powered it back up it would not boot (stuck on the Searching for Bootserver message) until I started the Hauppauge service. Then it booted, I killed the Hauppauge service, and was back up with GB-PVR. I have a dongle.bin in C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Dongle which I believe is the same file as in C:\Program Files\Hauppauge MediaMVP\Hardware.

Not a major problem, just wondering if perhaps I need to configure something diffeently.

Thanks...

GB-PVR can perform the same boot steps as the Hauppauge software with the exception of providing a DHCP server. A DHCP server is used to allocate an IP address for the MVP. Most people already have one of these on their network (usually in an internet router), so in this case GB-PVR is able to boot the MVP entirely.

In the situation where dont have DHCP server somewhere on your network, then you'll still need to boot the MVP using the original Hauppauge software.

Zed,
The exact same thing happened to me yesterday..........
I have a m0n0wall firewall that acts as a DHCP server so
the MVP should get an IP OK.

My Setup:
Windows Server 2003 SP1 on AMD XP2200+, 1 Gig DDR Ram, 1 x 200 Gig and 1 x 160 Gig Seagate Harddrives, Hauppauge PVR500MCE
2 x Hauppauge MVP's (Bedroom and Lounge)

When the MVP powers on, it finds the dhcp server (in my D-Link router) OK, then sticks on the 'Contacting MediaMVP BootServer...' message. As soon as I fire up the Hauppauge service, it loads the application and comes right up. The GB-PVR service seem to not be responding for some reason (I'm running two servers...would that matter?). I assume it uses some sort of TFTP to boot.

I have two MVP's, one connected to the same switch as the PC, the other to another switch on the other side of the house, both wired connections, and both behave the same.

Not a huge big deal, I don't power the MVP boxes off all that often but the first time it happened I thought the MVP was sick. I can certainly live with it but am kinda curious about it.

Thanks...

One of the other threads in here got me thinking about this and I think I've solved the problem. I have MAC filtering enabled on my D-Link router (614+) and I had not added the MVP boxes to the enabled list. Evidently, they were not getting IP addresses from the router, which is why they were not booting from the GB-PVR service. I added them to the allowed list in the router and they connect and boot just fine from the GB-PVR service. Doh!! The MediaMVP service must provide a dhcp service, so that was why I had to start them and boot the MVPs before I could use GB-PVR.

Anyway, they're working just fine now (and Sub was right after all (as usual [Image: smile.gif] ).
