building first media server

Guys I'm interested in building a media server I mainly convert all my DVD's to ISO and all my music files are in mp3 format. I'm not interested in recording live TV all I want to do is play my music and video files. So is gbpvr right for me as I stated I don't want to record live tv can this function be disabled. Also what kind of hardware would I need on the server end since I'm only going to be doing music and playing back video I forgot to metion I also will use it for pictures. I want to be able to use a remote control to control the interface also. I'm also trying to decide what I need on the client end I know gbpvr can be used as a client however has anyone used this device http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6882103603.

I'm not familiar with the D-Link device, but GBPVR will do everything that you want. Live TV can be disabled in the config. A simple Hauppauge MVP will work as a client, and they can be obtained for less than $100, remote included. However, the MVP will only play Mpegs, anything else needs to be converted. If you want to do that "on the fly", you'll need some serious CPU horsepower on the server.
