Hello documentationy-types!

I'm not sure if blader_se is back yet, and it was suggested that I post a message here to see if one of you were able to set me up with edit abilities on the wiki. So, here I am, posting a message here to see if one of you are able to set me up with edit abilities on the wiki. And if you happen to have an introductory course in wiki editing nearby... well, that'd be a treat too.

No rush - I've been delaying starting on the documentation for my wee baby plugin for a month now. I'm happy to delay it longer yet. /cough

Thanks!

I'm back, no delaying no more, you just got yourself edit rights. (PM:ed details to you.)

Did you PM me? I have not gotten any new PM in my inbox...
Thanks for not giving up.

Oh hello! Welcome back!

No, I didn't PM you. I started to, noticed that you had been away since mid-December, and figured that the general post would be better. (Admittedly, there was a few days between step one and step two. I really am putting this off.)

Thank you for the PM! Off to read it now. And (/sigh) time to get started I guess.

I usually don't log-in since I for the most time is accessing the forum from public computers, and the PM gives me an email notification so I still know when I get PM:ed (with appropriate delay ;-).

Happy editing.

Hi,

I'm use to wikipedia, so I'm having trouble figuring out how to edit a page. From the content of this thread, it seems I need edit permissions. I'm trying to edit Note 1 on page http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardw...ptureCards. The English is not very clear to someone new to tuners. I'd like a little help understanding exactly what is trying to be said there.

Thanks,

It is saying that if you have just one digital cable connection you can only watch or record one channel at a time no matter how many digital tuners you have.

You would however be able to record/watch one analog channel and one digital channel simultaniously as US cable providers supply free to air analog channels in the same connection

Hope that is a little bit clearer

Perhaps I'm still being a bit dense (I am new to this), but I'm still not getting it.

With a VCR I have one connection and I can watch one channel and record another at the same time. How is a PVR different? When I read, "you can only watch or record one channel at a time no matter how many digital tuners you have", it makes it sound like you have to be either watching or recording, you can't do both at the same time, or if you do, you have to watch what you're recording.

I appreciate the fast response and willingness to help instead of deride.

you need a tuner for each thing you watch or record as watching is just like recording but you are watching it at that precise time
so to watch one channel and record another you need 2 tuners

as in your vcr has one tuner and you would be watching the other channel with either a set top box or the tv tuner

With the setup above there are two tuners, one in the VCR and one in the TV (the VCR basically takes it's feed from aerial then passes the signal on to the TV)
