Greetings,

It's been quite some time since I last posted - never had a puter that could handle video. Now I have (and a PVR150 card) and I want to investigate GB-PVR again. Couple of questions I couldn't find in the forums...

1 - What sort of resources does GB-PVR take? More interested in the TVrecording side (Running from systray only). I ask this since the puter I'd be running GB-PVR from is my main puter.

2 - I can only assume GB-PVR hands off the recoding to the PVR150 - so basically works as if I was running the standard HauP S/Ware (resources again)?

3 - The recorded image file (.mpg) is the same as if it was recorded from the HauP S/ware? (sorry if this is a dumb question)

4 - Wake from Standby/Sleep after recording is supported?

5 - IR blaster from MCE version of PVR150 works with GB-PVR

That's about it. Thx very much in advance.

PS - One final thing - what is PVRx2?

I can tell you my own experience. I only use GBPVR for recording from my PVR350 card and displaying on a television in another room with a MediaMVP which is networked (not wirelessly) to the PC. The PVR350 card does hardware encoding of the video and the MediaMVP does hardware decoding of the video file. The load on the PC, which is also my PC I use for everything, is minimal. I can work on the computer while it is recording a program and don't notice any impact on my applications (word processor, browser, etc). I bought the PVR350 card because it also has video decoding hardware but the new version of PVRX2 does not support that feature.

I stay away from dealing with AVI files or DVDs because I want all the encoding/decoding to be done by hardware external to the PC.

I do use the Internet Radio and WebCam plug-ins. These also have little impact on the PC.

If you start up PVRX2 on your PC to view a program on the PC's monitor the program takes a very large amount of memory and the decoding of the video file uses a lot of PC processing power. The CONFIG program, which you shouldn't have to use once you get the program set up to your liking, has a very large memory footprint and is slow.

I used to use the original Hauppage remotes with both the PVR350 card and the MediaMVP. Recently, I have switched to using a Logitech Harmony 880 remote and that handles the interaction with the MEdiaMVP with no problems.

Hope this helps you.

My setup seems quite happy (see sig), but this should probably be considered low spec

KiwiKid Wrote:2 - I can only assume GB-PVR hands off the recoding to the PVR150 - so basically works as if I was running the standard HauP S/Ware (resources again)?

Yep, the 150 handles all the encoding, so gbpvr just has to write the stream to disk

KiwiKid Wrote:3 - The recorded image file (.mpg) is the same as if it was recorded from the HauP S/ware? (sorry if this is a dumb question)

I believe so

KiwiKid Wrote:4 - Wake from Standby/Sleep after recording is supported?

Yes, although from seeing some posts on here there can be issues getting this setup - not usually a gbpvr issue but more of the motherboard??? IIRC

KiwiKid Wrote:5 - IR blaster from MCE version of PVR150 works with GB-PVR

Sorry not sure, but I beleive so

PVRx2.exe is the new front end that is replacing gbpvr.exe, basically it improves on the skinning abilities

Thx muchly for your helpful replies.

My puter is now waking/sleeping from standby with the WinTV card, so I can only assume it will continue to work as it does with GB-PVR.

If I can get the IR blaster from the MCE kit working (Don't have MCE) that will save me having to buy the other HauP card that works with the HauP S/ware.

Finally, how do I find out if my system is VMR9 compatible?
