hi all

my PCH arrived yesterday woo Smile

i have had a bit of a read around on this forum particularly - including the quickstart stickied thread at the top of this forum

at the mo, i have a single MVP running on the network, its usign the MVPMC dongle, but other than that, i havent played at all with the MVPMC settings at all

there is alot of talk about config.xml etc, which tbh, i dont even kjnow where that might live, and expect it would be somewhere on my server if i had got MVPMc configured correctly with its shares etc ???

really looking forward to getting it set up, but dont want to chase my tail for hrs and hrs if i can possibly avoid it

i am assuming that i need to add another MVP autostart, if im having both the PCH/MVP on the network at the same time. ? btu that is about all i have managed to work out, and might be wrong Smile

i am running GBPVR 1.2.9
4ghz processor
2gb ram
hauppage dvb 500 dual card
gigabit lan
windows xp

not sure if any of that is any use, but might 'set the scene' somewhat

have read the howtos from the MVPMC site, but wasnt sure if i needed to do all the DHCP etc type setup to get this working

any pointers much appreciated

thanks

Since you bumped up the number of servers I would start by ignoring mvpmc and everything to do with mvpmc unless you don't have the /etc/mvpmc share set up. Concentrate on getting the share working and then continue through the survival guide step by step not skipping anything.

config.xml is related to GB-PVR. If you are going to be connecting to an SD TV you can ignore this for the time being, in fact I'd recommend that you replace the MVP with the PCH while you get the initial setup working.

hi again martin,

thanks for your reply

so am i to assume that in order to get the PCH to play live TV i MUST get the MVPMC share working first.. the etc/mvpmc..

the easiest option being, sort it for the MVP, and then switch out the MVP for the PCH and follow the steps in the stickied post at the top of this forum. ?
i have had trouble finding a howto on getting the MVP share set up.. unless it is this very long one (http://www.mvpmc.org/windows/mvpmc_windoze_howto.html) ?
i have read through that - but wasnt sure it applied to me as such as it says its only for h1 and older versions of the MVP, mine is a H4, so went through the replay tv for dummies howto, which seemed to just be about changing the GBPVR dongle for the MVPMC one - which i did.. that wasnt beyond me thankfully Smile

edit.. ok .. am i right in assumming that http://mvpmc.wikispaces.com/Loadconfig this is the correct thing to follow, as i would like to stick with my routers dhcp setup. ?

sorry to again be a pain..but am finding all this, and the associated jargon a bit difficult to follow..

thanks

It is not a 100% requirement but it is recommended. The PCH is a media extender designed to play files from a share and you will get maximum value if you learn how to share files on your system. If enabling the guest account is a problem we can fall back and try with a username and password, and if that doesn't work in the worst case (which I really want to avoid if at all possible) we can load mvpmcx2 from USB drive.

Please, please ignore that one.

Those are better. However the goal isn't to get the mvp to run it is to focus on configuring the share and the guest account.
