Ring... ring... ring.. ring.. pause.

What you expect to be a short call ...goes on...and ...on....

Not so good on even modern Plasma which is supposed to be
burn-in resistant. Is there anyway we can have a screensaver kick in when playback is paused?
Core2-E2180, 1G RAM, 1Gb-5450 Silent, 2Tb +300g HDDs.
Three tuners: Twinhan DVB-T x 1, Hauppauge Nova 500T (dual)

DTB Digital SD + HD content (PAL-MPEG2-AC3).
Custom case made very quiet. Zalman CPU cooler.
Sits in rack with other HiFi.

ParaLED to show tuner activity.

Display: 42" 1920x1080p Panasonic Plasma

Wasn't sure whether to add my agreement to this thread or this one, but yes - I too think that a screensaver during pause would be a great idea. The unpredictable sleep patterns of a very young child has led to several occasions where our plasma TV has displayed the same image for a wince-inducingly long time.

Fair enough not using the same screensaver pause duration as standard, but couldn't you check on playback position every few seconds, and if it hasn't changed for say five minutes the screensaver would kick in? If there are problems getting the screensaver to show over video, even just automatically stopping the video after a ten minute pause would be better than accidentally having an image displayed for an hour or two.

cheers,

tieke
