I wrote a couple of perl scripts (compiled to EXE). Just wondered if anyone was interested. I couldn't quite find something that suited my needs.

Comskip script
I didn't like how on my PVR comskip would max the CPU making the fan really go right after recording. So I wrote a script that (via scheduled task) looked at all the MPG or DVR-MS files and do 5 or 10 at once, or what ever number I configured it for in the middle of the night. It would leave recordings already done alone.

Thumbnail script
On startup this would use FFMPEG to make thumbnails of all the AVI's, etc. Same name but with JPG extension. Obvoiusly doesn't do the video twice. Config file specifies resolution and location to put thumbnails, either same directory as AVI or another, etc.

The thumbnail script sounds interesting.

jonb1974,

Thanks for the script. I use it last night to create the thumpnail for the video. My first run does not have the ffmpeg in the system PATH so it makes a whole bunch of zero bytes thumpnail. I have to manually delete the bad .jpeg then rerun the script again.

Is it possible that you can add thumpnail for *.ts or *.dv-rms files? I did not get any thumnail for the *.ts files for videos. Thanks.

Added *.dvr-ms and *.ts, also removed where is created empty thumbnail files. The reason I had this feature was because I had some files that ffmpeg wouldn't like and wouldn't create the JPG file, as such it would try and do the same files over and over, so I changed it so it would create an empty file so FFMPEG would not try again.

jonb1974,

I can't get thumpnail from *.ts file. Can you verify this work for you?

Also another small request. Is it possible that your script check for folder.jpeg then create one if it does not exist.

Thanks.

I don't use *.ts files myself. Does ffmpeg support *.ts files? what should the folder.jpg be? Should it be the first the thumbnail for the first AVI in the folder?

It seems like ffmpeg can't handle transport stream at this time. I can manually take the snapshot for *.ts files at this time until something better come by.

On the folder.jpeg, the order is not important so the first video can be save as folder is fine.

Thanks.
