I searched these forums for info on using the Avermedia Remotes with gbpvr.
All I found was refference to an Avermedia remote that contected to the tuner card via the S-Video port on the card. In those threads there wasn't any support in gbpvr for that type of remote connection.

The newest Aver remote connects to the PC via USB.
Here is the link to the Avermedia remote:
http://www.aver.com/mpd/mpdmcsrmkit.html
The retail price on the remote is about $20 USD
As you can see it is USB and is supplied with the IR receiver dongle.

Since this is different from the older Aver remotes is there now or is there going to be and builtin suopport for this remote as there is for the Hauppauge remotes?

From what I gather the Aver A180 is a popular card being used with gnpvr.
It certainly would be nice to have this remote directly supported so one does not have to use Girder or HIP.

There is no direct support for this remote in the application. Also, I have zero Avermedia devices, so its unlikely I'll be building in support for their remotes in the future.

You may still be able to use your remote though - some remotes, like those produced by Hauppauge, just have a simple text file to configure a mapping between remote buttons and keypresses. These are typically easily configured to work with GB-PVR.

Hmmm..... OK, sounds like it might be worth a try as long as Girder or HIP wouldn't be needed. Girder is like $50 and if one needed a USB-UIRT then that's another $50. 100 bucks is a lot to have aremote control to work! Although, I think HIP is free but has nagging pop-ups where-as Girder does not.

So, the question now is... Would I still need an axtra program like Girder in order to get an Avermedia USB remote to work? Or, is re-mapping these text files (if they are actually used) the only thing needed?

Does anyone here have one of these newer Avermedia Remotes? If so, have you tried getting it to work with gbpvr?

Personally I dont know why anyone whould want to go down that path. I'd just buy a $29 MCE remote instead (remote+receiver+blaster), and these are directly supported by the application: http://www.pcalchemy.com/product_info.ph...e-controls

To be honest, I dont know. It depends on the software that Avermedia install to work with the remote. Hauppauge have this simple text file I described. Some manufacturers emulate MCE remotes, and dont need any special software and will work without having to do anything. I dont know what avermedia do.

Ok, I took a look at the MCE remote package. I'm not running XP Media Center, just XP Pro.

From the ad:
System Requirements: Requires a Media Center PC running Windows XP Media Center Edition, Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate.

Do I need to be running MCE for this remote to work or am I back to where I started (remoteless)?? I don't recall reading where the MCE remotes will work across both XP platforms. The price of this remote certainly is within reason. If this would work on my XP Pro, I'm buying one ASAP.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on one hand, while holding my credit card at the ready in the other hand.

I've got one on my XP Pro machine in the lounge. I seem to remember XP Pro has the drivers an is ready to go, whereas XP Home you need to copy a few files one.

The only thing to be aware of, is that if you want to have the remote start GB-PVR when you press the Windows button on the remote, then you may be back to needing HIP or IR Server Suite or one of the other similar apps. GB-PVR doesnt do this one specific thing that some users want. Personally I use GB-PVR on a dedicated machine, so the GB-PVR UI is just left running the whole time. I thought I should mention this since HIP seemed to be a big deal for you.

Sub,
Thanks for the help. I went ahead and ordered one of the MCE Remotes.

Regarding the issue of having GB-PVR to start running with pressing the "Windows Button" The issue for me would to have GB-PVR come out of hibernation, load from the "start-up menu" and have it load directly to Live TV. I read in another thread where you might impliment the load directly to "Live TV" feature in a future version. Also, I read where another user simply added an option string if the desktop short cut. Can't remember exactly what the string was, but I could not get it to work. Is there a list of command line options for pvrx2.exe ?

Thanks again
