My search to view QAM programming in my haupage 1800 has led me here.

I was able to seemingly install the application.

Having to open the cmd line and run msiexec /a to allow it was funny.

So it installed.

I am thinking "now what!"

The app is not visible anywhere.

I navigate to where it installed and try to launch the program.

But, which to load? Does a person start with GBPVRTray, with Config, what?

I start with gbpvrtray. Nothing happens. I click on the tray icon. Ok it is obviously not what I want.

I run config.

The program is installed, and everything is in greek. What am I supposed to do next?

welcome.... yeah it is all really daunting when you first start out.

Its been a long while since I first installed, I think you want to start here

http://www.gbpvr.com/pmwiki/

Specifically here

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Quick...QuickStart

Good news is, it does work, once you get it set up Wink

Normally you wouldnt have to manually run the installer with "msiexec /a", and normally at the end of an install it'd automatically run the config app.

But now that you've got it installed, you need to go in and setup a capture source. There is details about doing this on the wiki.

Thank you for the mention of the wiki. I'm sure it will help.

However, some information is missing in it.

Unfortunately, it is in the very first step!

I am setting up the Capture Sources.

I click add, and I am then supposed to select my recording source.

There are 3 options. Analog Recording Plugin, AnalogHighDef Recording Plugin, and Digital Recording Plugin.

If I choose either of the first two options, it is not correct. I can choose the Digital Recording plugin, click on settings, and go from there. The wiki mentions selecting the "only show devices detected in this machine". I do that.

It shows hauppage oem 885, hvr 1800mce ATSC, QAM, as well as 1250 ATSC and QAM.

I assume to pick the one that makes the most sense, which of course is 1800MCE QAM.

The wiki mentions the importance of selecting my country. However, the only thing that shows is "All Countries." Ok, fine whatever. I press on.

Region/Transmitter again only shows the one option of "manual tuning".

I sign up for a schedules direct membership. Trial for only 7 days, $20 for a year! Ok, fine whatever. (I did try one of the other options first but I was not able to get any channels to show up on the scan after I added it to EPG, s o maybe the EPG source is wrong?)

Ok, sign up is complete. Do I choose Comcast, or Comcast Digital? I am assuming I do not choose Comcast Digital, as I do not have a cable box, and am thus, not using Digital Cable.

It appears to work. I see channels listed, and checkmarks for enabling or disabling them in the add/remove section.

I don't see any mention of HD stations, but I am not worrying about that just yet, maybe the channel callsigns are just duplicated for both types.

I click OK, hoping the program doesn't error on me. it doesn't.

I am back at the main tab of the application, and the wiki implies that I'm done. (unless I experience slow playback)

I take a moment to change the directory locations.

I click Ok.

This error pops ups up when the Information tab displays "restarting GB-PVR Recording Service"

http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=errorrx9.jpg

I double check my .Net installation of course. No problems there, as far as I know.

The text in the details field is at the bottom of this post.

Well, the first line of that tells a big story. Recording service is not found on this computer. The rest is probably gobblity-gook.

I do the good deed of searching the forums here for a similar occurence. Find a few. First mention to be sure to run config.exe as an administrator. (I try this, knowing nothing will change as the account I am on, does have administrator privelages). Nothing changes. I continue reading.

There is mention of that user deleting the directory of users/name/appdata/virtualstore/devanz and re-running pvrx2.

He said it worked for him.

Strange thing is, before I deleted that folder I ran pvxr2 or whatever the executable is named (it does look nice, and apparently this *IS* the executable that a person runs when they get it set up.)

I close it out since I can't really do anything in here, and start it up again.

Nothing happens, the program crashes.

I can get into it again. The picture browser works.

I check the guide listing. That is obviously not configured as I see something like "showprogram ** and showduration **"

The program crashes on me.

For now, I'm giving up. I had just imaged my system, so I'm going to see what else I can break by following the instructions to just top install the tv pack.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** Exception Text **************
System.InvalidOperationException: Service GB-PVR Recording Service was not found on computer '.'. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The specified service does not exist as an installed service
--- End of inner exception stack trace ---
at

Nah, too much text so I editted it out, I'm sure the first part is the problem anyway.

Failed install indeed... GB-PVR might be a little tough when you first start, but I don't think too many people are having the problems you are.

I would uninstall it, delete the devnz/gbpvr directory, delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Devnz key in registry.

I would try again. You should be able to just double click on the .msi install package. If it doesn't start, then fix that problem... Maybe .msi extensions are registered to the wrong application launcher... It's supposed to open with the Windows Installer... Maybe you need to look at the version of installer you are using...
