Quick question

Will this transcode files and then burn them in a DVD compatible format? Ie. What if I have an mkv file, will transcode it to a DVD compatible Mpeg2 and burn it? What about HD Mpeg2 in a ts (in the states here)?

It will only take Mpeg files and convert to dvd. All others must be transcoded first.

In the states HD is mpeg2 (normally 720p or 1080i) where as the DVD spec is mpeg2 at 480p. Will it down-convert to the lower resolution so it can be played in standard DVD players?

It should. I always run 480 or 576p files so I haven't run any 720p or 1080i/p files to know for sure.
