With the release of the new GB-PVR 1.3.7, and the new display of metadata in the VideoLibrary, I wanted to know:

What is metadata, how can one access it, edit and create the metadata?

Thanks

You can read and write metadata (technically an NTFS alternate stream) with a statement like notepad filename.mpg:metadata.xml

Correct.

It also supports another format of metadata, which I've described in the 1.3.7 release announcement thread.

May I ask if teh metadata is used directly?
Or more to the point, I use Episode Tweaker to add/edit subtitles and descriptions of recorded shows. I guess this changes the database entries rather than the files metadata. Is there a downside, problem etc with the two descriptions not being the same??

cheers

The recordings screen will show whatever data is in the database.

The Video Library never looks in the database. It only looks on the filesystem. It'll use either the metadata xml files, or the embedded metadata stream made at the time it was recorded.
