Fluffykeith -

To get my MVP to work with GBPVR without disabling Windows XP's firewall completely, I had to open up a bunch of ports:

App Type Port #
-----------------
NTP UDP 123
MVP UDP 31100
MVP Tftp UDP 16869
MVP TCP GUI 5906
MVP TCP 31099
MVP Service Locator UDP 16881
MVP Media UDP 6337
MVP Media TCP 6337
MVP PBPVR TCP 8337
MVP GBTray TCP 4256
MVP GBRec TCP 7968
MVP GB Rec TCP 7967
MVP BootP UDP 16868
MVP Boot UDP 67
MVP Boot UDP 16867

In addition, I added the following apps to the exception list:
App GBPVRTray.exe
App GBPvrRecordingService.Exe
App GBPvr.exe
App PVXR2.exe

This was all done through trial and error, so I can't say for sure that all these need to be open.

The other thing you could check is which dongle.bin you're using...

I am 100% sure that if your firewall allows exclusion by program you don't need to open ports for the MVP. Opening these two will work

GBPVRRecordingService.exe
PVRX2.exe

Allowing GBPVR.exe is no longer necessary.

I've turn off the firewall completely and it still loads and then shows the PVR menu then freezes. I got the menu to scroll once for one click but thats about it.

Is my MVP dead?

Do you leave it on ? How do you stop members of the family hitting the power button on the remote!!

Mine is off, when it is not needed. From power off just to load the dongel.bin file it takes 27 seconds. Then the red/green progress bar will reach its final block within 15 seconds. After that I have to wait 6 minutes and 40 seconds till the application starts.

I also suspected network problems, so I did a Wireshark trace and I've seen nothing special: After loading its OS, the MVP arps for 192.168.178.1, gets an answer and after that there is silence on the network. After ~ 6 to 7 minutes mvpmc finishes booting and I'm able to start emulation mode.

... while typing these lines, I've got the the idea to checkout older mvpmc versions. I checked one from 12/28/2007 - no difference. Then I bootet the default dongle.bin that comes with GBPVR (I use Vista, so it is not recommended). This one asked me for the preferred server and I selected my server at 192.168.178.20. Everything was fine, the MVP did start up without delay! Switching back to mvpmc 0.3.4 this one also needed only a few seconds from finishing the OS boot progress bar to starting the application! Smile

So what does this preferred server mean to mvpmc? Is there some nvram aboard?

Correct the preferred server is store in nvram and setting this with the Hauppauge dongle is necessary for revision H machines and mvpmc with emulation mode. I addition for older version you might actually have to load the Hauppauge software to set the preferred server.
