Hello again folks.

Just seen that Play are selling the Cyberlink remote control for only £5.99

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/6372024/-/Product.html

Was thinking of getting one but see some people are having problems with buttons that dont work in GBPVR... 2 questions...

1) Is this remote worth getting

2) If some buttons dont work straight away in GBPVR - can they be key-press mapped in something like HIP?

Cheers guys, would love some up to date info on this remote control as it seems like a bargain.

I used to use this remote on my build about 2 years ago when it came with my ATI 550 card. The only buttons that dont really work are those in the white field. I had a Girder license at the time (Girder is a 3rd party program for extreme remote control manipulation...cost me like $20.00US at the time). They had a plugin that with some reconfiguring would allow me to map all of the buttons. It was a great setup but would end up retired once i bought a Logitech Harmony remote...
Athlon64 x2 3800+, MSI socket 939 mobo (FID), 1GB Corsair Value Select, ATI x1650pro (fanless), Thermaltake Tenor case, 1x80mm 2x60mm Panaflow fans, 380W Seasonic psu.

I don't have that particular remote, but based on the comments saying that it doesn't require any software to be installed I strongly suspect it works exactly like my Gyration MCE remote which installs as a USB HID device.

If so, you'll be able to program the missing buttons no problem with EventGhost. See my thread here:

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...te+buttons

I started out lost, had a short discussion with sub about how gb-pvr gets remote commands, but then sorted out the EventGhost procedure in post 11. That cyberlink remote should be similar; in particular when you add the HID plugin, you'll need to select the right HID device from the list and there may be more than one for your remote; each one may cover a different group of buttons.

hey allsighs, thanks for the info. Its a shame that the white buttons cannot be assigned but I mainly want the control to fast forward through adverts on live timeshift play so the regular buttons on the remote should do that.
Also, if the direction/arrow keys work ok on the remote then I should be able to navigate.
Lastly, was thinking of using something lie HIP to try and map keys - what is this remote classed as? I have no idea if it is MCE or Blaster - really no clue.
Cheers bud!

johnson,
hopefully it will be similar to yours.
gonna order it right now and even though I have just had a quick read through the thread link you provided I will give it a thorough read onece the remote arrives.
It all seems a little confusing but will try things out and post back as there may be some other UK peeps out there that could get the same remote as £5.99 does seems like a bargain.

Thanks all!
Sam

You should be able to map the buttons in the white area using EventGhost. Post back in this thread if you need help. EventGhost is a bit confusing when you've never seen it before (it sure was for me, just a symptom of how many different things it can do).

Cheers johnsonx42,
I have ordered the item and providing the Royal Fail (oops, sorry I mean Royal Mail) decide to actually deliver a parcel to me then I will test it all out this week.
Will post back on here if I get stuck and appreciate your postings.
Cheers.
