HVR-1600 and Comcast

Hello,

It's time for me to upgrade my DVR to HD since I've gotten a nice TV and Comcast STBs. My question is will the HVR-1600 allow me to record HDTV digital encrypted channels coming from the Comcast DVR/STB? If now what do you guys recommend. I just want to record the HDTV premium channels from Comcast and not use their DVR.

The Comcast STB will only be sending standard definition analog via its outputs to the HVR-1600, so no you will not get highdef digital this way.

The only way to record HD from a STB is using a product like the Hauppauge HD-PVR.

You might be able to get your locals via clear QAM, or via firewire out of the STB. Some people have gotten channels like Discovery/TNT/ESPN via firewire, but YMMV.

That being said, the HD-PVR is the only way to get all your HD channels into GB-PVR.
