I opted in for the Silverlight service a bit too early as when use the Watch It now service while recording my recordings get messed up. I believe this is due to the processing overhead of the Silverlight player as opposed to the previous player.

Now that Netflix has offically rolled out the Silverlight player should both options work with the Netflix plugin? Also any insight on opting out of the Silverlight service with netflix would be awesome.

The latest version of the plugin works will launch the Silverlight player (with the patch) but there is a bug regarding te old player. You would need to use 1.0.23 for the old player.

Where did you see that they have officially rolled out the silverlight player? I have heard that new accounts are being forced to use the Silverlight player not old accounts yet.

As far as I know, there is no way to opt out of the Silverlight player and return to the old player (unless Netflix has changed their policy on this).

I took the email I got on Dec 3 as the official rollout to the public (as opposed to beta/opt ins. This is what it said:

"Good news Mac users! Now you can watch movies (some new releases)
& TV episodes (including current season) instantly on your Mac. Watch as much as you want, as often as you want."

After I posted I gave them a call and their is still no opt-out available. I am thinking of cancelling and reopening to see if it helps.

That sounds a lot like officially rolling out silverlight. As you know, that's what happened to me. You're right, so far they haven't forced any existing accounts over to silverlight, but if they're putting all new accounts on it it pretty much means it's out of beta

Won't help - new accounts are automatically on silverlight, no opt-in or opt-out.

I suppose I call and say I'm cancelling my account unless they put me back on the old player, but if they're confident enough with silverlight that they're putting all new accounts on it then it can't be long before the old method goes away completely for everyone.

I think they like Silverlight

So I don't think they will roll you back.

To be honest, I kind of like the Silverlight player. It's not great as far as the plugin is concerned but it is a huge improvement over theri old player. If they would allow keyboard shortcuts for commands like FF/REW and Play/Pause/Stop, I wouldn't mind it at all.
