I am trying to build a GBPVR client machine running Windows XP PRO. I am looking to add a usb receiver. However, all the ones I found so far within my price range ($30) only support Vista MCE or XP MCE.

I am less concerned about the remote because I can use a basic one, may be an MCE remote.

Anyway, I have looked through many forums, but was not able to answer the question whether a usb IR receiver the supports MCE (Vista or XP) will work at all on XP Pro.

If you have a suggestion for a decent USB receiver and remote, please let me know. I do not need any tuners, or a blaster for this client machine.

Thanks in advance.

I have GBPVR set up on an XP Home computer with a HVR-2250. I use a MCE remote no problem. You do need to hack the INT file to have it work, but it works fine. There are many threads about this in the forum and wiki.

Where did you find the drivers for the remote that came with the HVR-2250?

Also how did you "hack the INT" file? Maybe its the INF file? Could you list the changes to the file?

The Device Instance Id is:

USB\VID_1784&PID_001\TS000PFO

Thanks in advance.

Never mind. I as able to download the "Update Rollup 2 for eHome Infrared Receiver for Windows XP Media Center" and install it on WinXP and the IR remote is working now.

I have a similar query to the original post. I have a spare Hauppauge remote that I want to use to control a GBPVR client machine.

Can anyone recommend an IR receiver that plugs into a USB port? Preferably something that is already for sale in NZ - hoping for around $30.

I think you need to have a hauppauge card installed in the client to be able to install the hauppauge remote software. I could be wrong though. Also, FYI you can't put a PVR150 card into a Vista box (so you can use the IR receiver) with over 3 gb of ram as the drivers do not support it and will not load.

You would use the eHome rollup driver noted above in WinXP. Just make sure you install the eHome rollup driver in XP before you install your Hauppauge tuner drivers. This prevents port #1 on the blaster from being shut off.

And if you have your Hauppauge drivers already installed, just install the eHome rollup first, reboot, & then clear/reinstall the Hauppauge drivers again. This will activate port #1 & #2 on the IR blaster.

Of course this is just my 2 cents..

35$ US, not NZ... thats double the price he wants to pay

Id just look at trademe for something man, you're not going to find anything cheaper...
